If you could solve a boxing mystery, what mystery would you solve? For example, would you solve the mysterious death of Sonny Liston and those responsible? Let's hear some from you talented posters out there.

I'd want to solve the biggest mystery in boxing history: Sonny Liston's true age.

For me I would have liked to solve the Sugar Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran rematch on Nov 25 1980, find out what really happened.

    Mystery, urban legend, conspiracy ...
The mystery of the (alleged) glass of water before the fight of Ali Vs Foreman.
    But I can't solve it, I can't prove it.

But the question is, if you could solve it? All mysteries are going to contain a conspiracy theory behind it until it is solved.

Did Jack Sharkey throw the fight to Primo??
I've seen a good few on here, absolutely convinced that the fight was a fix.

I think there’s some room for a bit of doubt re Carnera’s KO of Sharkey but I’m not convinced 100% that it was fixed - impossible to say, - so it’s good one to put up for solving.

Liston is a Pandora’s Box of mysteries begging resolution: His age, Miami, Maine, his death. His true reach (LOL) etc.

Did Jersey Joe deliberately go down in the rematch v Marciano and/or did Walcott deliberately take the full 10 count when he really could have gotten up? - perhaps feigning that he misheard or mistimed the count to excuse himself?

Plenty more but I’m not going to hog them. :)

    Good post young man.
Liston, yes the man is a total riddle.
Mystery surround s his entire life.
    Did he throw Ali 2?
Was he genuinely hurt by Ali's anchor punch?
Was he really born in the 1930 s??
Was he killed. Natural death. Suicide?
    ????

That’s it Ferg - Liston is probably boxing’s greatest riddle, straight up and down, from go to whoa.

Besides his obvious talents as an ATG, it really makes him one of, if not THE, most compelling characters and life stories in boxing.

Imagine being able to sit with the man, guaranteed that he would truly reveal himself and give you the straight dope on everything you ask. Even if you were bound by non-disclosure after the fact it would be great to know the truth just for your own satisfaction.

I know if Liston 'suggested' i must not disclose this to anyone, I would heed that 'suggestion', self preservation all the way is my motto, that would be a scary scenario finding Mr Liston on your doorstep after his suggestion was not complied with.

I'd just open the door, turn to expose my jaw, and tell him to get on with it. Nothing else you can really do in that situation.
