Bivol was paid $5M for the first match. For the rematch he will be paid at least $10M. I would accept it if I was Bivol and wouldn't care if I would lose or not. After the rematch, I would retire.

A man can live like a king in Russia till the end of his life with his family and wouldn't need to worry about anything if he has $15M in his bank account .

There will be a rematch at 175. I doubt the rematch clause allows Canelo to dictate the fight should be at 168lbs.

That's all very good but let's see if he get's paid for the first fight first. Considering all the shenanigens going on with Russian atheletes and sanctions I wouldn't just sign up if I've not been paid for the first fight as of yet.

@exocet76 I think those are just false rumours. Bivol probably has already been paid his $5M fee, otherwise he wouldn't talk about rematch or give interviews etc. He looks quite happy, he isn't complaining.

As long as he's been paid then he should be good to go. I still fon't see the sense of a fight at 168lb for Canelo though considering his ambitions are for belts at 175lb.

@exocet76 Don't you think it will be a bigger fight if they fought at 168 for Canelo's belts? Bivol will say "you challenged me at 175 for my belt and I won. Now I'm challenging you at 168 for your belts". It would draw more attraction and more audience. Rematch at 168 will generate much more renevue than the rematch at 175. Everybody will be happy $$$.

I see what you're saying but it doesn''t make sense for Canelo... Firstly Canelo got schooled in the first fight and I don't see a good reason for it being that different at 168lb. I think this because Bivol isn't that big at Light Heavy and therefore shouldn't have issues going to Super Middle. So it's not like Bivol would be super drained or weak meaning the result would most likely be the same. For Bivol it makes more sense as he could be a two weight champ and undisputed at both if he can get through Beterbiev v Smith winner. So although it would be interesting Canelo would literally lose everything. I just can't see him taking that risk. If the first fight was close then yeah I could see it otherwise it's a bit too risky.

    Nah, I dont buy it.

Probably he just cant make 168 without destroying himself to the ground. And that's ok, nothing wrong about that.

I do think that those wanting Dmitry Bivol to go down to 168 are those Canelo Alvarez fans that cannot get over Bivol's victory over Alvarez. They are looking for an edge. Plain and simple Alvarez lost. I do not believe in moral victories just plain old victories. Bivol is one of the Champions at 175, he should call his own terms as champion, the challenger should not. No one put a gun to Canelo's head to fight Bivol, it was a personal choice. Name calling me or not, they are the cold hard facts. It was okay for Canelo to beat a legitimate 175 lb champion Sergey Kovolov but losing to another 175 lb champion then the excuses start to come flowing out, perhaps Bivol should have thrown the fight to Canelo's management to satisfy his fans.

He walks around at 185-188 and thinks he could make 168 and was 100% sure he could've before Covid

True, But the title that Bivol won was at 175 lbs, Canelo should not be able to call the shots, if it was me it would be a Flat No. Canelo needs to get over his loss to Dmitry Bivol, acceptance is good for the soul, denial is harmful. I am not into the same cultural thing, I am into fighters who have good skills, conduct themselves as adults with class, good role models, and do not try to be like others but themselves.

Bivol really has put the cat among the pigeons, its been hilarious watching the Canelo fan girls scramble around backtracking on their Usyk comments & how's he's not a LHW now despite KOing Kovalev & being built like a fkin slab of granite .. I actually hope Bivol tells him to **** off and just moves on.. and to be honest I don't even think that was the best of Bivol either , he didn't quite look as sharp as he has done previously in the likes of the Pascal fight

I agree he absolutely should get to call the shots now. He got paid a pittance (which he might not even receive) compared to the likes of Plant, BJS 2.0 and Callum Smith even though he's the far better fighter, had made seven defences of his world title, and had fought the better opposition. He accepted the first offer and they even made him (ie. the reigning champion) walk in first. He's in the driver's seat now. He's the cash cow. The money man. The big bad boss man. He's The Daddy. He runs D Wing. And Clenelo dances to the tune Bivol Dmitry whistles.

Well said. Yes, Clen needs to accept his loss and thank pastor Dmitry for baptizing him free of charge in his own church.
