Brutal one punch knockouts has always been the poster child in boxing. Getting to see fighters get knocked out by a beautifully set up is very amazing yet brutal. BUT, a knockout in combinations are almost just as violent. Seeing another man teeing another man with high volume of punches is very entertaining. Shower blows by blows onto his opponent and maybe showing some excellent skill of finishing them of. I would say the most memorable finishing knockouts are Ali KO8 Foreman and Douglas KO10 Tyson. Those two knockouts will forever be the best finishing knockouts of the sport. As they fire rapid punches to upset the whole world and made most people lost their money. But what are my favourite finishing knockouts? A finishing knockout that I enjoy watching multiple times? Well for me, it's: Earnie Shavers KO10 Roy "Tiger" Williams On the verge of a knockout seconds ago, Shavers pulled a LaMotta-Daunthille out of nowhere effort. Knocking out Tiger Williams with a left hook and straight right hands. Ron Lyle KO6 Earnie Shavers After he was decked in the second round, Lyle fought a grueling 5 round bout before brutalizing Shavers with a series of crushing rights instantly in the opening bell of round 6. Sonny Liston KO2 Cleveland Williams After an amazing amount of back and forth between two fighters, Liston eventually would drop Williams hard with a left hook. He went for the kill and threw a right high on the head, left uppercut, another right, another left uppercut, a left hook to the body and a right hand that would ultimately finish Williams off. Bob Satterfield KO1 Bob Baker Satterfield, a great finisher he always was, came out with multiple blazing combinations to stop the high ranked 210lbs Baker. He snapped a heavy right into Baker's stomach, followed by few body shots, a left hook to the head, then a right and a second left hook that'll put Baker down. There may be more but these are some that instantly came out of my mind. Thoughts?
Mike Tyson finishing off Pinklon Thomas, and Sugar Ray Leonard finishing off Dave Boy Green. Are two that instantly come to mind, Tyson for the brutality of the combinations, and Leonard for the beauty of the combinations.
If I understand this right you’re saying combination punching KOs are more violent and dramatic? Well, Paret vs Griffith was as brutal as you could ask of a finish. (RIP) I prefer to see a fighter pulled into a shot for a clean KO. It’s a talent that Moore demonstrated time and time again he’d use your momentum so well that you’d be carried into a shot like a fly to the windshield of a train and be splattered.
Indeed it was the uppercut is what I always remember about that KO, i think Tyson might have a few good combination KO's. Another one is Tua vs Ruiz another pretty quick brutal one. Lewis vs Botha was a pretty good one. One of your favourite fights Cooper vs Moorer, had a pretty good finish with a series of combinations aswell.
Duran/DeJesus 3 was a violent but beautiful display by Duran at the finish. DeJesus had alot of courage and pride. When he got dropped by that vicious righthand in the 12th, he crawled to the ropes to help himself up. Some of that is instinct but he knew what was in store for him. That finishing combination by Duran would have made Joe Louis proud.
Ike Williams v Beau Jack I Terry Norris v Donald Curry and it's not on youtube but I saw the film on about a 6 month delay back in the day, and that was Armando Muniz v Billy Lloyd. It would remind you of the Liston-Williams fight the way Muniz slowly pounded Lloyd into the canvas in the corner.
I should also mention Carlos Ortiz' knockout of Battling Torres. Carlos slowly broke him down in the waning 1/2 minute of the 10th round. I thought of this only because I was dwelling on Ortiz. I don't know if anyone heard this, but Ortiz suffered a severe stroke last night.
Shavers vs Williams was dreadful, I don’t even think a punch landed for the KO….much more fatigue and lack of conditioning in my mind.
Charles vs Walcott III. This knockout is poetic. Jersey Joe lost a Unanimous Decision not once but TWICE after 15 rounds against Ezzard in their first and second encounters. But in the third fight, Jersey Joe walks out his corner round 7 and KO's Ezzard (an ATG) with a slip and counter that is text book perfection. Charles had no glass jaw. Jersey Joe on a good night was something remarkable to behold. Jersey Joe Walcott is imo, a top 20 p4p all time great. This content is protected
Just think of how lethal a volley of left jabs delivered to the midsection would be in the waning seconds of a thirteen rounder if thrown properly.
