After battering Ron Stander, Joe Frazier s eye sight has deteriorated so much that he can't even fool himself. He regretfully gives up his hard won world title and Retires. Question s. How would unbeaten Joe be ranked now? Would people believe that Joe will always beat Ali? Does this have a butterfly effect on the Ali v Foreman fight in Africa? Eg, does it actually take place when and where it did? Remember folks, this is all just in fun!
Good one,Fergy! Joe's stock would have inevitably risen owing to being unbeaten and winning FOTC. Opinion would have been split over who would have won a rematch between the two. Muhammad would have beaten Foreman as in real time but not as much would have been made of it.
Cheers Stevie. Can imagine what opinion would have like. You'd have Joe s fans saying if they d have met again, this time Joe stops him. And Ali's fans just as sure that he wins the next time, cos Joe was lucky.! But a lot of scenario s chucked around and Muhammad would be hoping Joe changes his mind and comes back.
I don't know man... I think people would have still had too many questions. They always would claim that Ali would get him in the rematch. I think Big George would have still been champ anyways and the Ali fight still play out the same. Foreman still would have faced Norton so the demand would still be there I think
Ahh ct, I love your imagination. Would be Intresting if perhaps Ali and George actually met for the vacant title. Would George be seen as all that, cos he never met Frazier?? Would the fight take place in the states and maybe have a different ending? With Joe out of the picture Ali needs a nemesis, but would that be actually Norton, that fight as u say is gonna be under different circumstances. So who knows.? Who else really was around to take Joe's place?
Think public may be split who would have won a rematch tbh. Joe pounded the heck out of Ali, so quite a few say it could happen again.
If Joe Frazier Had To Retire After Stander would be treated in a similar way as Rocky Marciano. I just think boxing fans sympathies would be on Frazier’s side (not Marciano’s); maybe I'm wrong.
No I believe your right. They'd definitely feel for Joe having to give up the title due to medical reasons. Not sure if this actually works against Ali, maybe seen as an imposter even in Frazier s place. Always been 0-1 to Joe could maybe really burn.
Oh for sure, but there's always be naysayers... Floyd dominated Pac, who still went on do have great successes, but people will always say the fight would have gone differently in 2010
The majority at this forum agreed that Frazier has the most valuable victory in the heavyweight category (Frazier Vs Ali 1). If Joe Frazier Had To Retire After Stander, he would become a legend. The theme you set shifts to the “Marciano Vs Frazier” theme, which I by no means want.
Brilliant. And yes,Ali would probably be seething through it. He may even try and turn it on to Joe, sayin he'd only retired to avoid him.
Ahh man. That's good. Yes, I can imagine that being said. I love Joe Frazier and totally admire him, but in this scenario he'd be built up as Dempsey, Marciano Liston and Louis all rolled in to one. And that's no disrespect to the man.
