The fights where you got it all wrong?

Teo-Loma and Teo-Kambosos are two I was wrong about. I thought both Teo and Kambosos would get outclassed but they both raised their game and took their titles. I hope I'm not wrong again in taking Kambosos over Haney.

The worst one was when I didn't know that Cocoa Kid fought Charley Burley. I was wondering what that fight would look like and in my head, I imagined the supposed " Tommy Hearns of the 40s" - if you will - being able to keep his range and take a decision over a passive, nonurgent Burley. Then I checked to see what other common opponents they had outside of the other Murderer's Row members, and saw that prime for prime, Burley dropped him three times and won clearly. I was wrong 60 years before I was born.

Douglas vs Tyson

 

It pains me to say it, but Mayweather vs Mosley and GGG vs Clenelo 1.
I thought Shane would beat Floyd and maybe even KO him, and when Shane staggered Floyd in the 2nd I felt prophetic. I had no idea Floyd was about to show a difference in class for the rest of the fight
For Golovkin vs Alvarez I was expecting Gennady to KO Saul and make it look it easy. Even though all knowledgeable and reasonable folks know that Golovkin won the fight, it was a coming out party (of sorts) for Clenelo in that he showed he was legitimately tough, skilled and at least belonged in the same ring with GGG.

 

Ignoring questionable judging:
Teo vs Loma: didn't realise Loma was injured but thought he would dominate.
Teo vs Kambosos: I'm an Australian and obvious support George Kambosos, but i saw him win a razor thin decision against Lee Selby, and doubted his ability to hurt Teo, but he did just that and was able to take Teo's power and win.
Canelo vs Kovalev: this fight looked fishy, but assuming there was no funny business, I expected this to be the fight where Canelo stepped up too far as happened with Bivol.
Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev: I wasn't completely sold on AB, and Gvozdyk destroyed Adonis and was one of the three Ukrainian musketeers including Loma and Usyk. I thought AB would be outpointed, but that was the day I realised he is top 5 P4P.
Margarito vs Cotto: this was a tough fight to pick but I thought Cotto would be too good, however, Margo's chin withstood inhuman punishment that left Cotto tired and frustrated, at which point he started to get beat down.
Chocolatito vs Rungvisai 2: expected Chocolatito to win, but he took a beating unlike anything he had taken before.

 

I was shocked to see mosley beat by forestt. I knew it was a tough fight but i didnt think anybody could beat mosley in that fashion.

 

Mayorga KOing Forest. This was just after the 92 Olympian had beaten Mosley clearly twice and I thought he would finally have his chance to shine. Well Mayorga, who I enjoyed watching but thought of as a crude brawler, ended up stopping the Vernon train dead in its tracks. I definitely thought Vernon would box a decision or get a late KO based on what I had seen of Mayorga.

 

DLH and Hatton against Pac.

I was convinced DLH would batter Pac and the size difference would be insurmountable. Also I was caught up in the Hatton hype and at the time and thought maybe, just maybe, he could bully his way to a win. I remember quoting someone who predicted that Hatton would be knocked in a couple rounds and laying into them for making such a stupid prediction.

The crow tasted bitter the following morning.

 

Teo-Loma and Teo-Kam as well, wrong twice.

I was also wrong for both Charlo vs Castaño fights. In the first one, IIRC, Teixeira had just shown that his level wasn't high so maybe Castaño didn't deserve much credit for beating him. After I saw BC's performance I thought he was the stronger guy, it didn't look like Charlo was tolerating his punches well and wasn't making the right adjustments. Of course Charlo came back for the second fight looking like his old self and BC wasn't in such good form (maybe overtrained or not recovered from the injury?).

 

Mayweather v McGregor

Always thought the answer to the age old question of who would win between a top level professional boxer or someone else that the answer was someone else. How wrong i was.

 

I have had many predictions completely wrong, when I was quite certain of the outcome.
But my biggest one must be Bute vs Froch, as I was convinced Bute would outbox him.

 

Saunders has always been his own worst enemy so that is very apt.
