What resumes include losses which positively affected a fighters legacy?

    One which comes to mind is Weavers loss against Holmes in their 1979 fight. Weaver was a 10-1 underdog with a 19-8 record, of his first dozen fights he went 6-6. His amateur record was 8-4 he fought for two years before turning pro in 1973. Weaver was the No.8 contender by 1979, this was a man who shouldn't have been a 12 round problem for Larry Holmes.

    Yes, Holmes said he got the flu in the middle of his camp, but he was doing himself no favors during the fight, dancing for several of the early rounds, and not sitting on his stool until the end of the 4th round? Weaver didn't knock Holmes down like Shavers would in his second fight with Holmes. But Weaver gave an amazing account of himself against a prime Larry Holmes who we recognize more now for being one of the greatest heavyweights ever. Against Holmes he was a game and competitive fighter who elevated his career through this loss.

    I think Wlad Klitschko vs AJ.

    Wlad was well over the hill and much had been said about his lack of heart. I think the AJ fight proved that not only could he come back from a heavy knockdown but also do so and come within a whisker of winning.
