Not counting mexican -americans. and it's a no brainer that Uk are ahead.

Mexico are extremely poor from about lightweight up. And yes they do have many fighters across all weight divisions, you can see that on boxrec.. they have far more fighters in every single weight class than the UK. So there's no excuses for how terrible they are in the higher and middle weights.

UK definitely has better fighters overall across all weight divisions.

You Brits seem to be forgetting last year when so many British fighters were pummeled and annihilated by Mexicans.

Mexican boxing is better than UK boxing. Past and present.

 

Tough one. In terms of pros they're both up there, worldwide, both trailing a little behind the USA. They're perfect Western hemisphere examples of countries like Japan and The Philippines in the orient that have strong traditions of and deep cultural affinity for the sport - and consequently have tough crucible-like domestic scenes with plenty of gritty and capable journeymen and gatekeepers for prospects to cut teeth against.

In the amateurs obviously they're much less strong - the Brits are still quite decent, but not on the level of many EE/ former Iron Curtain territories, nor Cuba.

Overall edge to UK, because they a) have the stronger amateur program, b) likely have a more favorable tomato can to high caliber journeyman ratio than Mexico, especially proportionate to country size, and c) invented the damn sport!

 

For Featherweight Britain has Owen Owen Moran and Jim Driscoll too. Formidable fighters.

With modern weights and multiple belts in his career, Owen Moran could have been something crazy like a 5 weight champion.

Freddie Welsh at Lightweight too. A great fighter, with a win over Benny Leonard I don't think you can write him off against anyone even if you don't favour him.
