Obviously your best win isn't all or even much of what makes you a P4P fighter, but I still thought it was an interesting exercise. Given that this is a made-up list for a made-up concept, I'm only going to be counting wins that I actually thought were wins. I scored the 2nd Canelo-GGG fight 115-113 Golovkin, and the 2nd Estrada-Chocolatito fight 116-112 Chocolatito, so I'm not counting those two "wins" for Canelo or Estrada. I'm using the Ring's list, though I'm going to add a couple guys who I think should be there or around. As a side note, 3 of the top 4 P4P fighters according to the Ring don't actually hold the Ring belt for their division, which I find hilarious. 1. Usyk - Joshua This to me is clearly the best win any of the P4P guys have, which is why Usyk is also my P4P #1. He went up a division giving away big height and reach advantages to beat a top 2 heavyweight. AJ might be a big stiff idiot, but there are a lot of guys who could do with a big stiff idiot on their resume. 2. Inoue - Donaire Donaire may have been 36, but it's still a pretty damn good win. Donaire at 118 or below has only lost thrice, twice to Inoue and once to some rando when he was 18 in his second fight. He won a belt in his very next fight, so it's not like he was completely washed. Donaire is the bigger guy as well, so you have to give credit to Inoue for beating a bigger P4P legend even if he was 36. Definitely not the best win on this list, but not the worst either. (This might not even be Inoue's best win given he beat a future unified champ in his 4th fight(Taguchi), but I'm not going to pretend like I know **** about 108 to properly judge that win) 3. Crawford - Postol This on the other hand has a claim on being possibly one of the worst best wins on this list. Terence Crawford is one of the best fighters in boxing and his best win is Postol. I guess it might be Porter or maybe someone else, but I can't be bothered spending too much time judging the B-level fighters on his resume. Fight Spence. Please. 4. Spence - Porter Honestly, Spence's resume isn't incredibly better. Kell Brook would definitely be his best win if not for the fact that it was after GGG obliterated his soul. Mikey Garcia was moving up 2 divisions. This leaves Porter, Danny Garcia, and Ugas. I'm going to give this to Porter even though Ugas maybe/probably beat him in their fight, probably just because I really like Porter. Fight Crawford. Please. 5. Estrada - SSR Like I said I'm not counting the Chocolatito fight. That leaves SSR, who for a reason nobody knows chose to fight orthodox the first half of the fight. That being said that's SSR's own damn fault and it's a really good win for Estrada, who still by my count has one loss to Chocolatito and one loss to SSR in the last 4 years. Does also have two good wins against Cuadras though. On an unrelated note, SSR has lost officially once in the last 8 years(probably also Chocolatito 1), and has a win each over two P4P guys in Chocolatito and Estrada. His fight against Bam should be way more hyped. 6. Canelo - Callum Smith Not counting GGG(and I think Lara beat Canelo too), but this is still a really good win. Moved up in weight to beat the way bigger undisputed Callum Smith, and while people might call him a bum now there were certainly people saying Callum was too big for Canelo and Canelo wouldn't fight him. 7. Bivol - Canelo I may be a Canelo hater, but not so much of one that I think AJ is better than Canelo P4P. But Canelo came up to Bivol's division giving away height and reach advantages, while Usyk went up to AJ's, so I have that win ahead as the best win on this list. But this is still a very good win over a P4P star overcoming rigged scorecards. 8. Lomachenko - Linares I don't rate Loma's wins over Rigo or Walters at all, so that leaves GRJ, Roman Martinez, Linares, Pedraza, Campbell(which I don't really rate either), Nakatani, and Comney. A who's who of good not great fighters, I'd probably give the nod to Linares who was indeed pretty damn good while Loma was also moving up in weight 9. Taylor - Jose Ramirez Taylor cleaned out 140, which isn't really the strongest division around, before robbing Catterall. He did beat like 4 unbeaten guys before that which shouldn't be forgotten. Jose Ramirez is probably the best of those guys who ran Taylor close and has wins over Pedraza, Postol, and Zepeda. 10. Jermell Charlo - Castano Honestly, Castano's best result is probably that he should have beaten Charlo in their first fight. That is also basically Tony Harrison's claim to fame. The other wins don't really stick out either, so might as well give this to Castano. HM. Haney - Kambosos The other option here is to give this to Linares, but the Linares who fought Haney really didn't look like the Linares who fought Loma to me and Kambosos was a 3-belt champion, even if he fought the worst version of Teo to get there. I do genuinely think Haney is elite and will definitely have better wins than Kambosos in his career. HM. Stevenson - Valdez Pretty much same story as Haney here. This could have been Herring, Valdez is a better win than Kambosos in my eyes, and Stevenson is elite and will have better wins. HM. Chocolatito - Estrada There is a world where Chocolatito is given the decision against Sor Rungvisai, doesn't rematch him, then fights Estrada later on and gets that decision as well. That Chocolatito is 50-0 and is talked about as one of the best ever. To me, he beat Estrada clearly in their 2nd fight, and it's a shame that he somehow is the anti-Canelo and just cannot buy a decision these days. I'm sure he'll continue to give us more great fights as will the rest of the guys at superfly, though I would note that literally none of them want Inoue(and Estrada especially has the size)
I'd say Bivol's win over JS Jr. was much more impressive. There really wasn't any way that Canelo was going to win that fight, and anyone who knows didn't buy into the Canelo hype knew that Bivol was wrong for Canelo stylistically, and physically.
Great topic. Think Fury is missing on that list. He is one that have at least 2 high profile wins in his career.
Crawford best win is easily Porter. I had Porter Edging Spence in their fight. I would also say Taylors best win is Prograis who provided a tougher test than Ramirez.
GRJ is a very underrated win. GRJ gave up on boxing after the Loma loss, he's not been in it mentally since then.
Ehhhh, respectfully............ Loma's best win was Nicholas Walters, Josh's best win was Prograis, Canelo's best win was Danny Jacobs (I thought he lost to Golovkin twice and Smith gave no pushback) and Spence's best win was definitely Kell Brook not Porter, I can agree with everyone else however.
This. No serious student of the sport expected Canelo to legitimately beat Bivol. Smith was a much better win for the Russian.
Inoue's best win is Donaire 2 Usyk's best win is Joshua 1 Canelo's best win is GGG 2 Crawfords best win is Porter Spence's best win is Brooke Estrada's best win is Rung 2 Bivol's best win is Canelo Lomachenko's best win is GRJ Taylor's best win is Prograis Jermell Charlo's is Castano 2 Pretty easy picks, all signature wins.
Still love the Gassiev performance it was a clinic but overall his best win has to be Joshua ya.. Lomas is Linares or Walters.. Id edge towards Walters as the performance was so good the guy not only quit in the ring but the sport LOL… And believe me Walters was highly regarded at the time.. in fact many thought he'd ice Loma.. Crawfords is still Postol for me, the Ukrainian was prime & had just starched Lucas.. Canelos is Cotto, GGG fight was a gift & Smith was Lucky to get past Ryder.. Smith turned out to be a huge disappointment in general…Inoues is Donaire obviously..
For Taylor yeah it was a tossup and I can definitely see Prograis. With Canelo I mainly gave it to Smith because of the size difference, I think Smith is going to go pretty well at LHW but I could see Cotto instead. I disagree on Spence and Loma though. Walters' best win is Donaire who is a bantamweight. One of his better wins is Darchinyan who is at best a bantamweight and probably more a flyweight/superfly. Marriaga is a pretty good win but lost every time he stepped up to world level. I thought Walters was overhyped coming into the fight with Loma and I don't rate that win incredibly highly. If not Linares, I'd say Loma's best win is Gary Russell Jr. For Spence I just can't rate beating a guy who moved up two divisions, got his eye destroyed, and then who moved back down two divisions.
Did serious students of the sport expect Smith to beat Bivol even though Bivol was -2500 favorite? Bivol fought the worse version of Smith. And the new and improved version got dominated by Vlasov
Betting odds have little to do with things. They are put forth by folks with casual level background. Tito was favoured over BHop ( a fairly ludicrous proposition). Bivol's chin was untested prior to Smith, and Smith had serious power, so there was a better chance he might spark Bivol. Canelo's only path to victory there was crooked or incompetent judging...and he very nearly got that.
