Unlike the past prime version of Larry Holmes. Or Cooney off of years of self pity and substance abuse. Holyfield in his prime would be able to keep pace with Spinks , who moved in straight lines for the most part because of knee issues. Holyfield would eventually wear Spinks down. Stop him late . 10-12 rd ko. for "Vander".
This, but I think the end would be sooner. Spinks at heavy was nowhere near the level of prime Holy imo. I'm not sure Michael would make 4 rounds.
As highly as I rated Spinks…and I did rate him very highly…Holyfield was a couple of notches above in terms of power at Heavyweight. I think Holyfield would KO or TKO Spinks by round 7. But as a light heavyweight…175-185.. Spinks would beat anybody in history in my opinion. With the Heavyweight boys, and I mean the elite prime big boys like Holy, I think Spinks would be out of his comfort zone
Prime Spinks wasn't at heavyweight . The weight this hypothetical fight would take place. Since Spinks didn't fight at cruiser and Holyfield may have had 1-2 pro fights at lt.heavy at the most.
The title said Prime Spinks, so it would take place at 175-190. Holyfield was a prime 28 year old at 190 pre roid pounds. I favor Spinks at that weight.
I'm not gonna say Spinks can't win this. I belive he can. Both men would be absolutely knackered at the of it, 15 rounds?, and Spinks gets the narrowest of points win. Be calling out for a rematch to.
Something to think about is that Spinks beat Holmes a full 7 years before Holyfield fought Holmes. Holmes was not as shot as folks think. Holmes beat Ray Mercer and should have got the decision against Oliver McCall years after losing to Spinks. All that said, I think Holyfield would beat Spinks but it would be a hell of a lot closer and competitive than people think and it wouldn't surprise me if Spinks found a way to win.
