Diego Corrales and Jorge Linares also had the frame and reach to be comfortable at Welter. Doesn't mean they would be successful moving up. Because they were not natural welters. Nakatani is a giant lightweight, far bigger than Floyd was. My point is Mayweather was good enough to put on tons of weight and fight at welter, but he wasn't a natural welter. It's not like Mayweather was a giant 135 or 140 pounder like say, De La Hoya. That guy was definitely a natural welter Oh suprise suprise Lomachenko who started out at a lower weight than Mayweather and caps out at 135 is smaller. Who could've guessed!!!!! Lomachenko obviously isn't a natural lightweight because he moved up 2 weight classes before he ventured into 135. But Mayweather moving up 4 weight classes before hitting welter is a natural welterweight.... It's contradictory isn't it. Also plenty of fighters boiled down in Mayweathers era. It's nothing new. I meant light welter for Chavez but my point still stands.
It depends on how GGG does the weight. If he ends up like Geale v Cotto, maybe Floyd has a chance at a points win where GGG doesn't have a mark on him by the end. But something tells me GGG knew he could make it okay, since he's clearly not a big MW. Floyd's tricks wouldn't work so well on GGG, who has a very varied arsenal. If Maidana can land a flush RH, you better believe GGG will land a lot more than that. The comparisons with Canelo are ridiculous. For one, the Canelo Floyd faced was not the same roidnelo GGG faced, in fact he was compromised. And the idea Canelo beat up GGG is laughable considering Canelo was the one on ***** street and people still dispute the judging. I believe the result would look a little like the Curtis Stevens fight. Not in style. But basically Mayweather would mouth off pre-fight then taste the power and skill and go into survival mode. GGG would brutally and sadistically beat him until the fight was stopped. The world would cheer.
Just re watched that fight aswell, Hagler definingly won that fight wasn't even hard to see, glad he retired instead of letting Boxing Politics' **** him around anymore after that decision, Leonard show boating in the last 30-40 secs and he takes all the rounds right? The funny thing is we had one of Floyd's favourite's Moretti score it for Leonard foreseeing the future tells it all.
50 votes so far and 10 select Floyd, analyzing the numbers it's clear 1 in 5 have no clue what they're talking about
Fair enough . My point is, is that Pac is not a natural welterweight, Mayweather however is and looks solid compared to other 147lbers.
Floyd fought at we Floyd fought at welterweight for so long because its a glamor division. He wouldn't have made the money that he made if he would have stayed below it. He is not a natural welterweight. That's like calling James Toney a natural heavyweight. These types of fighters are just that talented.
I don't disagree and said the same myself regarding his ability. What I was saying was that he had the height. reach and skill to be comfortable at Welter. The difference was his skill but the point was he wasn't disadvantaged like some who are shorter and have T-Rex arms it's why Loma was a bad example to bring up. The other issue is more fighters now boiling down and putting a load of weight on come fight night but as I pointed out that is a fairly recent phenomena of guys looking to get a strength and size advantage. Floyd didn't need to do that and a few don't because it helps with endurance and speed.
Thanks for explaining that for him apparently for a guy who's been around Boxing so long needed to understand that Pac was never a natural welterweight or even close to a standard one including his reach alone which is mind boggling.
He never said Pacquiao was a natural welter. He said that if Mayweather is considered a natural walter according to specific logic and circumstances then Pacquiao would also be a natural welter under that same logic. The truth is neither are natural Welters and Pacquiao is even less so
