I know most of you guys will think this guy is a POS because of what happened in his personal life but I always wonder what could have been for Valero. I remember something about him not being able to fight in the US due to not being able to pass a medical, can anyone shed light on that? I don’t think Pacquaio would have had the crazy streak of wins if Valero was around, would have turned the Pacman stiff
lol, pacquiao knocks out valero. valero was dropped and hurt multiple times by fighter not on the level of pacman and at 126 130 135, pacquiao had real 1 shot KO power with incredible speed. Valero would lose to Barrera, Pac, Marquez, etc. He was just a brawler with heavy hands and relentless pressure. Pacquiao had everything he had except he was much faster with his hands, feet, reflexes and hit harder to be honest
If I remember correctly, Valero had been in a motorcycle accident and suffered some head trauma and when that was discovered he wasn’t able to get licensed in the States. He was able to get licensed in Japan though. His reputation in the gym was a bit similar to Golovkin- supposedly a beast. It was rumored that Oscar de la Hoya kicked him out of his Pacquiao camp because Valero was beating Oscar badly. There’s video of Edwin and Erik Morales sparring and Erik is getting beaten. There’s also videos of Mikey Garcia , and others, saying how strong and powerful Valero was. Based on that anecdotal evidence and his perfect record of 27-0, 27KOs it’s fun to speculate but ultimately we’ll never know how he would’ve fared against the elite fighters in championship fights.
Valero was very crude. He may have beaten most of the B fighters, and on rare occasions could have scored a win against a top fighter made for his style, but like Ricardo Mayorga,, he didnt have the fundamentals or ring IQ to beat the creme of the crop.
Broner was the only other guy to dominate a prime DeMarco, so Valero was at least at that level. And yes, 135 Broner was pretty good.
He was improving fast and broke Morrales on sparring. Think he could be on the top with a good trainer
He was never beaten and is now dead. A bit disrespectful to claim such a thing when he will never get to prove you wrong. He was a fantastic fighter, who knows what he could have achieved.
He wasnt as crude as people here make him out to be. He was extremely sharp fast reflexes that ma de him a dynamic fighter. He would have done some damage had he stayed off the sauce.
