I think this fight would play out similar to a Gatti vs Ward with not stop action and would end up going to the scorecards with a razor thin victory for Gatti
I remember seeing a dream matchup poll for those two fighter and Like 45% had Hatton winning with a KO. Hatton definately was a stronger fighter and probably would have dropped Gatti with a body shot but ultimately Gatti would have made a come back and out box Hatton on the outside. I said I have Gatti with razor thin victory but I wouldent put money on it
Micky Ward lost wide to Zab Judah. Hatton made Tszyu quit shorty after Tsyzu stopped Judah. Micky Ward lost to Antonio Diaz. Antonio Diaz was beaten by Lazcano, who was soundly beaten by Hatton. Hatton even stopped Castillo, who beat Lazcano. Hatton and Ward aren't interchangeable at all. Manfredy and Ivan Robinson weren't near his level either.
Ward and Hatton both were elite body punchers and both of them were front foot fighters who utilized relentless pressure in their favor. That style matches up perfect with a fighter like Gatti who can easily adapt to the pressure and fight of his back foot very well. I wasent comparing their records on who beat who, Im saying styleistic wise Gatti has the upper hand cause he can switch up his style at any given moment as to where Hatton only had one style
He absolutely wouldn’t have any upper hand. Ward was a fringe contender at best whose career hinges on beating up Gatti and Hatton was a pfp guy and lineal champ.
I agree that Hatton's career was on a different level compared to Wards resume but either way both fighters are alike style wise, both fight off their front foot and utilize pressure to their advantage. Both fighters were predictable in their style and never switched it up. Gatti's foot work and movement off his back foot would make the difference in the fight giving Gatt a razor thin W
