Kovalev was a monster. I would only favor a handful of light heavyweights to defeat him in his prime and Beterbiev is not one of them.

In the immediate aftermath of such a destructive win most will go for Beterbiev but Kov in his prime wasn't the damaged goods he is now.

His jab, ability to control range, and power would cause big problems for Beterbiev. And Beterbiev has been KD'd by less powerful punchers.

    It's a 50/50 IMO

Kov with the early knockdown, controlling the fight, Beterbiev getting closer down the stretch.

Similar to Kov Ward 1 but with more violence

Prime Kovalev was a monster.... Beterbiev wouldn't have made it to the second half of the fight.

For the record, one of their meetings in the amateurs Beterbiev beat Kovalev 25-24, so it wasn't exactly a blowout. If that's not losing by an ass whisker, I don't what is.

Ward is 38 years old - just a year older than Beterbiev. It's possible; Ward would get a ton of money.

KRUSHER but not an easy fight! KRUSHER jab was so destructive it would damage Beterbiev all night, hes also longer and quicker, he wasnt easy to hit because his offensive tools were so effective. This is both on top form.

Kovalev was a beast, and the way he performed in the first fight against Ward can be argued as being a level above anything Beterbiev has ever done.

You could also argue Kovalev shutting Hopkins out is a level higher than Beterbiev also.

But if Beterbiev beats Bivol to fully unify the division I'd say he trumps the accomplishments of Kovalev.

As for H2H matchups, Beterbiev is a beast, Kovalev was increasingly more alcoholic and less durable, I favour Artur by ko.

Its 50/50 for me. Kovalev has the jab and timing. Beterbiev the cardiovascular capacity and strength.

Kovalev was more fluid and a much more pleasing boxer to watch but this guy is just a ****ing beast who walks through you, would be a hell of a fight, but my gut feeling is that AB would get to him late & stop him

I think that Beterbiev could have put in trouble and possibly beat every top 10 LH of all time. He would destroyed Kovalev. even if we consider the circumstance of the Kovalev's loss against Canelo, do you really think that any form of Beterbiev could lose to Canelo? Damn he is 37 and has a terrfic body and workrate. We don't even seen signs of decline.

Don't know about more powerful. Kovalev's power was sublime at one point but more durable yes.

I think it's 50/50. Kovalev was slightly more fluid boxer both monstrous punchers. Think either man could knock the other out.

prime kovalev, hands down every day of the week twice on saturday.

Apart from his power, which is absolutely inhuman, there is nothing, NOTHING, special in beterbiev. In every department apart from raw power he's a total mediocrity. You remove the power from beterbiev and he wouldnt even become a world champion as malignaggi did, for instance. His boxing is 100% backed by his power and only his power, nothing else.

Kovalev is/was a total *******. But his boxing at his prime was amazing in a lot of departments, not only his power (which was absolutely insane too).

I wouldnt put a lot of money on beterbiev if he fights bivol either, btw. But you wont ever watch that fight, and you will not complain about that, because you are too busy complaining about fighters who fight every-****ing-one, like canelo.

Beterbiev countered john's jab with his right hand from the very beginning, that's how he koed him. I think about someone trying to counter prime kovalev's jab with his right hand, and I start laughing. Fastest way to dreamland, no matter how much power beterbiev carries.

ofc, beterbiev vs someone like ward, the son of god ,stands ZERO chances. NONE. He wouldnt know even what happened in the ring, "he hugged me" would be his only words while trying to understad why he lost.

nah, you have to be completely naive to think that this fight didnt happen because of ward. This fight was never going to happen the same way he is never going to fight bivol unless cashing out (gg style). Easy life, gg style. There are figthers like that.

Kovalev had a beautiful jab and big power and could box with the best of them. He wasn't as durable as Beterbiev but he can hurt and beat him.
