I wouldn't doubt Ruiz felt this way, **** by the time he faced Haye he was probably the slowest he'd ever been in his life. But I disagree, I'd say Hayes speed is definitely in the same neighborhood but the big difference and the level between them as a fan of both is, Hayes footwork often left him off-balance offensively and defensively. So some of his speed came at a loss of technique that you assume Roy was lacking....

Roy's athleticism basically fell from mount Olympus meanwhile guys like Hopkins had a far lesser decline because they weren't that supremely athletic to begin with, so this adjustment comparison is super apples to oranges.
Lastly my Usyk comments were a bit tongue in cheek, but I'm now aware you completely believe these things and reinforce my point...dear God.

"Lastly my Usyk comments were a bit tongue in cheek"

Usyk is the only sub-heavyweight in history to win in dominant fashion against an elite SHW, in the A-side SHW's backyard no less. The only other man worth mentioning in this regard is Holyfield but his one win (in five attempts) was controversial and he uncontroversially failed in all of his other attempts, getting knocked down 3 times and knocked out once in the process. Usyk is a historically unique fighter and the best southpaw heavyweight in history, of that there is no doubt.

None of the HW's pre-Holyfield fought an elite SHW, the closet being Holmes-Cooney. But Cooney was 10 lbs lighter than Bowe 1 and 15 lbs lighter than AJ, green, inactive and undisciplined. And he still gave a prime Holmes a very tough fight over 13 rounds.

It was obvious listening to Jones' commentary during AJ-Usyk that he was willing AJ to win and exaggerating his success, as beating AJ in enemy territory is a much more impressive "P4P" accomplishment than beating John Ruiz at home with a bodyguard referee.

The recency bias and disrespect of RJJ is insane.

RJJ destroys Beterbiev. RJJ's chin was fine until late in his career. Too fast and too skilled for Beterbiev.

What an interesting fight this would be!

Roy looks and is way faster than Beterbiev. Depends what AB is like after 6 rounds cause I could see him losing every round up until that point. If he catches Jones flush though this fight is changing quick.

Hmmm I'd say 55-45 in favour of Jones on pts unless Beterbiev pulls out the highlight reel ko.

The fight could be similar in a sense to Froch - Taylor.

roy jones has a glass chin at 175... I assure you that beterviev would destroy him, it's more that he will give you a sample when he knocked out bivol in less than 7 rounds

Lovers of the past are alive in this sport. I saw what Antonio did to him.

Bivol is going to make you look stupid. He will decision Beterbiev, so if i were you i wouldn't use him as an example for this matchup

Usyk had a great accomplishment, but that's not what's being discussed here. He's not faster than prime Roy Jones Jr. on any planet or in any dimension and any sane persons imagination probably wouldn't even allow it for consideration.

Back to this deal about Usyk's accomplishment, why do you feel the need to diminish Aj and Roy to laud him? They all have great accomplishments all those can be true simultaneously. If you really want to get into though, Usyk has that one big win at heavyweight, if he's great it will show in his coming fights but let's wait for it to happen 1st. And by denigrating AJ, you do realize you are diminishing what is Usyk's biggest win of his career to this point? Aj has a ko scalp of one of the greatest heavyweights ever, period. And a decent resume to boot, he's avenged every loss up to this point so let's wait and see how things play out. Joe Louis beat guys much larger than himself as well, it's one of many perils of the heavyweight division. Simmer down a bit about Usyk in a Beterbiev vs. Jones thread....

Whatever speculation or mental gymnastics you want to employ about what John Ruiz said, he emphatically claimed that Haye had faster feet than Jones and Haye was a cruiser. Usyk is a cruiser even more dependent on speed than Haye as Usyk doesn't have big power, so it's no stretch whatsoever to believe that Usyk has faster feet than Jones (as well as being heavier, longer, more skilled, better conditioned, tougher etc.). A shorter, stubbier Beterbiev was able to keep up with a mid 20's future undisputed CW and unified HW champ Usyk and give him his "roughest fight" in his 350 fight amateur career, so this is very relevant to how Beterbiev-Jones would play out.

"Usyk has that one big win at heavyweight, if he's great it will show in his coming fights but let's wait for it to happen 1st"

Usyk already has the best cruiserweight record of all time hands down so he's a great on that front alone. He's almost 36 years old now so he's not going to have an extended reign at HW. Clearly beating AJ away from home as the B-side is already a great win unparalleled in heavyweight history due to the size discrepancy against a strong SHW champion, the adverse circumstances and the dominance of the performance. Joe Louis's wins over bigger non-athletic opponents or Haye/Chagaev's wins over Valuev are not in the same stratosphere.

No mental gymnastics are needed, just eyes. You need a new pair if you believe Usyk is in the same zip code lol. How can Usyk's win over Aj be in a different stratosphere when just a bit up this page you downplay his biggest win? Makes absolutely zero sense. You sound like a super fan, tell Usyk us common folk at esb say hello.

The eyes of many of the resident morons on this forum apparently tell them that Beterbiev is a slow, glass chinned caveman with poor skills. I'll take the word of John Ruiz (who praised Jones heavily in that article and has no obvious reason to lie) over such cretins.

Usyk's win is in a different stratosphere because the bumbling likes of Carnera and Valuev are levels below a skilled, athletic big man like AJ, regardless of AJ's flaws.

You shouldn't live and die with anyone's estimations on things you can judge for yourself tbfh. Those you mention are obviously wrong about Beterbiev, and you are just as wrong about Usyk in a speed comp. Haye and Jones were both pretty explosive athletically, Usyk? Not so much. Ruiz may think the sky is made of cookies and cream for all I care lol. I know who's faster, you do too.

Usyk's win is in a different stratosphere because you like him. Honesty is the best policy. It's a great win for his career, but again let's settle down a bit on the knee jerk.
