It was more than obvious in this bout that neither man (especially Pac) were in their prime.

Mayweather was awful for Pacquiao their whole careers. Far too good at capitalising on mistakes and controlling both the distance and rhythm. I do think by the time of the fight, Mayweather's experience and less aggressive style might have been better suited for specifically dealing with Pacquiao, but yeah, Floyd was just as past it as Pacquiao. If it had happened five years earlier it would've been closer, but maybe three years earlier, it may have been wider.

Pacquiao just had no way of setting up his power shots or turning it into the type of fight he likes best. Had he tried to force things he'd have been countered to death. Mayweather just shut him down with his feet and range and that was that.

Wilfredo Gomez vs Carlos Zarate in October 1978, Gomez took apart Zarate very easily at 122 lbs.

Pernell Whitaker vs Azumah Nelson ? It may of not been a beating, but Whitaker did win near enough every round as I recall.

Just goes to show how moving up just 1 weightclass, can have a major effect on a fighter.

Just like when Gomez moved up against Sanchez, Gomez wasn't as effective either. I guess that's maybe another fight you could add to the list. Although it was a bit more competitive in spots.

So when I see other posters criticizing other fighters because they did not move up I always remember to say, A Great Fighter Knows His Own Limitations. Fighters should not listen to blood thirsty fans who want them to move up. Sometimes fighters do not take their punch with them.

Was Holyfield near to prime when he fought Bowe. Near enough I'd say.

Gomez was electric at 122. I wasn't a fan of his dirty tactics in that fight though.

People were just blinded by their hatred for Mayweather and disliking his fighting style that they desperately wanted Pacquiao to knock him out and convinced themselves this was the likeliest outcome. There are cases where Pacuiao had an easier time with a common opponent (Cotto, Hatton) or the opposite where Mayweather had an easier time (Marquez). I'm pretty sure Pac would have had an easier time with Maidana and Mayweather would have toyed with Bradley and picked him apart. It's cliche, but styles make fights and it should have been clear to anyone who was paying close attention to their abilities that even in his prime Pac would have had an extremely difficult time fighting his fight and landing a wide volume of shots.

The best example of this is Marvin Hagler.
