IMO. He boxed phenomenally against Riddick Bowe (we don't know if those were his career fights). Riddick Bowe in 1996 was not what he was in 1992, and it is precisely because of these struggles that Andrew Golota is so exalted. He didn’t do well against ATG Lennox Lewis (I’m aware of Andrew Golot’s health issues) and Mike Tyson. So I think with a different mindset he could barely make it into the ATG list, and by no means become an HW GOAT.
He was talented. I will give him that. ATG is a stretch. But let’s say he doesn’t DQ himself in two fights with Bowe. He gets straight up wins. And then gets the Nod over Byrd and Ruiz. Two fights that easily could of went his way. And rest of career plays out same. He’s borderline HOF right there. So he was real good. Bowe 2x Byrd Ruiz Witherspoon old he’s in the mix for a hof spot.
Bugbear of mine. If you're the GOAT, you aren't just 'one of the greatest of all time'. And you can't be 'a Heavyweight GOAT.' There is no plural to the Greatest of All Time. You can have several fighters whom you might individually say of them that they are one of the greatest of all time. Several fighters can be All Time Greats. In both cases, how many is subjective. You don't want the number to be too many or you devalue the word. But the number of fighters you call the Greatest of All Time ie the GOAT is not subjective. It's one - exclusively. Otherwise you devalue the term. Vent over. Sorry about that.
Fergy i normally agree with alot of what you say, but in this instance i have to say i disagree mate. Golota would always be a stylistic nightmare for Bowe. Bowe always had trouble with fighters who kept him at range Tubbs, Biggs, Holyfield 2, and never really showed he could deal with a good jab or a skilled big man. Bowe in his own words said about Golota "He was the first fighter who hit me at will with the jab, it surprised me and threw me off". Bowe of course was fading and his weight issues, were all over the place during the Golota fights. But i think Golota showed enough strengths in both fights, and Bowe showed enough weaknesses in both fights, along with Bowe's other issues in his career. To show that Golota would have always have posed a problem for Bowe. Lastly Fergy i'd like to pose a question to you, how many skilled big man did Bowe beat ?
No worries mate. Wouldn't do for us all to agree on everything. In your question, scanning his record, tbh he wasn't around that long and didn't have a lot of those big names. Holyfield the biggest name but not the biggest guy. The guy with the silly hair cut, his name escape s me, he was found out by Bowe but he wasn't spectacular. Hide was to small really. Not many really big guys to be truthful. I still see Bowe beating him if a few years back but that's probably because I never really rated Golota. But respect your opinion as usual, pal.
He got beat by Tyson because he over-comitted with the jab and kept eating counter rights. This content is protected
If you were your aunt who was also your uncle, there would probably be a terminator sent into the past to eliminate you before you met yourself.
Impossible. He was massacred by Tyson and Lewis in fights where he was mentally ok. Good fighter though.
