One thing I think bears on this that might offset GGG's decline, is that - ironically - since the 2nd GGG fight, Canelo seems to have decided he can't be knocked out and abandoned his boxing skills and jab, and become a stalker, planting his feet and aiming to 'chop down the tree' It worked fine for him with Smith, Yilidrim, Saunders & Plant, but we all saw what happened against Bivol - it was like because Canelo was expecting Bivol to succumb to the body/arm hooks, when he didn't he had no plan B and struggled to find his skills again. So what gameplan is Canelo going to bring? I would say that bringing his 'walk down and KO" strategy for GGG, even this declined 40 year old version would be a VERY risky move.
Canelo is fine, he wont even need to train 100% for this fight. He should save that for future fights with Charlo, Andrade or the rematch with Bivol, not a money grab like the triple gimmick fight
GGG composed himself better than Canelo. Seems to me like Canelo is trying to psyche himself up and promote the fight. One note of concern, GGG looks old in the face all of a sudden. We know he's been on the decline for a few years but it could be a sharp drop off this time
Canelo hasn't trained for a little while. His neck looks a little smaller and overall he looks softer too. The lack of weight cutting for GGG might be a small blessing for him
Canelo losing to Bivol was the best thing for this fight. I had no interest beforehand, but Golovkin actually has a chan
Canelo’s style since is exactly how you beat GGG. GGG can’t fight going backwards and can’t take a body shot. This is up to Canelo, he could not take it seriously and lose a lackluster decision trying to box him, or he can take it seriously and walk though old Golovkin with sustained body attacks.
I agree. This time we will see how good Canelo's ring IQ is. He became a front-foot stalker because of the bigger opponents and fought in eye-catching spurts. However, with all the weight gain and completely new style, does Canelo even have the ability to turn the clock back to say the Chavez Jr-Fielding era? I don't think he does anymore. He has knees injuries and all that heavy bulking exercies he did to inflate his "smaller" body will catch up with him eventually.
I never picked GGG to win, but I think its closer than people think. Canelo is not the same monster anymore.
