15 rounds. 1950s rules. Both fighters are administered foolproof PED tests throughout the 8 month lead-up to the fight. Morrison grudgingly complies. Who wins?
Morrison has underrated skills on these forums. I think people seriously underestimate what he could do. That said his physicality is a huge part of why he was successful. Take away the industrial solvents that he used to mainline and I have no idea whether he'd be remotely the same fighter. Layne on the other hand was legit until Marciano caved his head in. I'll go with Layne, because he actually existed as opposed to Hypothetical Morrison.
Very likely. Still, the forum does regularly try to answer questions with limited information. We've never even seen Sullivan on fight film, but still regularly ask whether he'd beat so-and-so under rules he's never fought under. My expectations for the thread are one or two points of discussion about what we need to know; maybe a few interesting sources swapped trying to get a handle on just how much PEDs helped Tommy in his career. Perhaps a little more respect for Rex Layne. Etc.
Tbh I dont think PEDs helped Tommy very much. He was just doing what everybody was doing. Like basic boxing drills or heavy bag.Juicing was just like that. At most here we can talk about the stylistic match up where I slightly favor Morrison.
I have never seen video of TM in his early fights, but I get the idea from what I read about him on this board that most believe he was always on PEDS. If there is no question that TM used PEDs his entire career there is probably no way to evaluate him w/o PEDs. PEDs change everything, strength, stamina, lean muscle mass, speed, quickness, reflexes, courage, aggression, training intensity, maybe even eye sight according to some, so IF a fighter was always on PEDs who knows what he would have been like w/o them? I've seen people come in the gym who are using PEDs and during that time, they have no fear. Later they will stop by, looking "softer", smaller, and they will not spar. Not scientific, but an observation. I don't know if the PEDs make the person "braver" or if the person just feels more confident while using them. IMO, if a person used PEDs his entire career, there is no way to even guess how he/she would be w/o them. He/she might never even get into the ring without the boost from PEDs and if they did, they may not be aggressive and fight completely different than they fought while using PEDs. If two fighters use PEDs, then both are somewhat equal, if one uses PEDs, the other does not, IMO, it's like one person has a knife or gun fighting an unarmed opponent.
About time someone tested that dirty Rex Layne! So just because there’s perfect testing doesn’t mean Tommy isn’t going to use them. There’s no rules on the books in the 1950s against them, haha, and even if he gets caught the suspension wouldn’t carry to the time of his real career. So beefy Tommy hooks sexy Rexy to sleep regardless.
