Boxrec records 15 bouts between Langford and McVey. Total score: 7-2-6 in Langford's favor. Not a 15 bout sweep.

Including newspaper decisions, Jeanette and McVey went 4-2-4 in Jeanette's favor, per Wikipedia.

Including newspaper decisions, Jeanette went 4-14-10 against Langford, per Wikipedia.

Admittedly, not all of these were in either fighter's prime, or fully motivated. Nevertheless, it suggests that even the best lose to good competitors if you match them up enough times.

With that in mind, how many times does Hasim Rahman beat Ali if they match up 17 times (the average # of fights the above 3 guys fought each other) over the course of their careers?

    Still Ali 17 times.

Lennox really did not train for that fight, and the rest of Rahman's record was pretty mediocre. He deserves his little spot in boxing history, but poses no threat whatsoever to prime Ali.

If the time machine managed to keep both in their prime for 17 fights, I still can’t see Rahman winning any. It would be like a boxer winning 17 fights in a row against inferior fighters…easily done. Rahman would always have a punchers chance though, so I can see Ali hitting the deck a couple of times in the 17 fights as he was prone to do with the hands down style he adopted at times. But the man just never got KO’d despite fighting some of the hardest punchers on earth.
I don’t think Rahman would manage it.

Oh…I just read over the course of their careers. That changes it a bit. If Rahman got the post 1978 Ali for a couple of fights, I think he’d win a couple.

Edit: I’d actually say post 1976 not 1978.

Ali would probably win 12-5 (12 out of 17 times). If you fight a fighter 17 times, there's simply gonna be a couple times that you lose.

In the 12th fight Don King would give Rahman a bogus decision to generate interest in the next 5 rematches

He was a pretty consistent performer. Not a lot of finesse to what he was doing, similar to McVey actually.
