Personally I like Sergio Martinez his unorthodox southpaw style relentless work rate and likeable character, however he was injury prone and not popular with promotors. He's got good wins on record too over opponents like Richard Williams twice , Adrian Stone , Matthew Macklin , Julio Chavez Jr and Martin Murray.
Massive fan of Martinez, he was the man at middleweight at a time in boxing that was big for me. Fight of the year followed by of the best KOs ever against Williams and a masterclass against Pavlik made me a fan. Really underrated run of defences against undefeated Darren Barker, Dzinziruk, and Murray, along with Macklin and all the WBC politics against him to beat Chavez junior. Lost to injury and an ATG in Cotto and has proven he’s a warrior with his comeback. Love the guy, no scandals, humble and does his work in the ring. At his best he was No3 P4P behind May and Pac
Phenomenal athlete with speed that most fighter's dream about having. Made the most of his physical gifts which offset his technical limitations.
Underrated fighter whose reign was cut short by injuries. I attended the Martinez fights against Dzinziruk and Cotto. The Martinez who lost to Cotto was in no way the same man from 3 years prior. His legs were shot by that fight and Cotto was the best cash out option.
