I wonder if there's anyone left alive that has even seen Greb fight? Maybe there is audio of old fighters or refs or managers, or whoever, commenting on him? Considering he is in loads and loads of people's ATG top 3 or so, he may seem overrated, I could understand that. I happen to rate him #1.
Jeez Man !! Ali was denied a licence to box, or even train, for FOUR YEARS!! for what were purely political reasons. Imagine any other fighter being banned for four years like Floyd, Canelo, Robinson even !! ? Ali came back & was obviously not the great fighter he was, but he still dominated the scene AGAIN!! He adjusted his style he was that great He was STILL the Best around.
Erhhhh Tyson is an ATG no doubt; but he is also grossly overrated. I have seen so many posts in the style of "Tyson was sooooooooooo great that he would beat Prime Ali, Prime Frazier, Prime Foreman, all of them at the same time, with Tyson blinfolded and with his right hand tied to his back" ...
I'm not saying he would, but his style AND skill is a nightmare for any heavy. His skills are sublime and he was the champ at 18. There's nothing overrated about that. A slow as molasses puncher like Foreman found Frazier out. Tyson is a better Fraizer except for output. Prime Ali and George are different problems for Tyson. Mike is definitely beatable. But he's also a frigging handful for any heavy ever.
The disrespect Ali has been getting over on another thread I made about overrated fighters is unbelievable. Ali is the most famous boxer of all time for a reason. His greatness is unparalleled in boxing. He upset the odds again and again. He stood up for what he believed in. He cleaned out the HW division twice in two of the hardest eras the weight class has ever seen. Has a resume any fighter would be dream of and had one of the biggest fan bases any fighter has ever had. Overrating Ali is impossible. Simply the Goat.
He was the greatest salesman in boxing I’ll give him that. But GOAT he is not. Outside the ring he was a cruel moron mostly.
I think Ezzard Charles at the height of his powers would beat him honestly. That is one big gulf in boxing ability, yessir.
Hipster revisionism. Best boxer ever? No. Best heavyweight boxer? At worst top 2. He was a superstar, a freak talent, a legend for good reason, had a resume that is second to none in his division and ticks all the boxes re heart, grit, bravery etc that the grizzled elders hold so dear.
Easily the greatest at HW for both resume and h2h in my book. I don't take anyone seriously who has him outside their top 5.
