Shields v Marshall Officially Announced - Not PPV

Reporters and interviewers endlessly bring it up whenever the topic is Shields/Marshall. Savannah is constantly being asked about it. She does mention it to Claressa to wind her up and aware that it's an inevitable part of the narrative but other than that she's pretty uninterested in and bored by it. She's well aware they've both changed a lot and it has little bearing on their upcoming clash.

 

I think its quite laughable that Shalom & Smith etc talk about how amazing it is that this isn't PPV.

It's a good job really as it would have bombed big time imo.

I have a few mates that watch boxing a bit but do buy 90% of the PPV's and none of them can even recall who these 2 are.

Not a massive sample size I get it but only previous PPV buyers would even consider buying this (if it was PPV) so I think they % of those who would have actually done that would have been minimal for sure.

 

Absolutely right. If Bellew Cleverly 2 bombed when PPVs were more common then this one would have gone to sh1te. It's a very good fight for a women's championship better than Taylor Serrano on paper and I will watch it but not many would pay for it. Saying that Sky would have gone nuts with the publicity and even the BBC would stick their nose in.

 

Interesting that Taylor was asked previously about headlining an all womens card and she said 'absolutely not'.

 

It was ludicrous when Don King and Dennis Rapaport made Larry Holmes vs Gerry Cooney to be about race. Forty years on, bringing up race when talking about Marshall vs Shields -- or indeed any fight -- is, frankly, no less ludicrous.
