Who under 190lbs would you confidently pick to beat him? I give Dempsey and Langford a shot . Anyone got other candidates?
Confidently? There's quite a few that I'd give "a shot", however. Some might even be favoured, on paper at least. Holyfield, Louis and Usyk spring to mind, assuming they can make the weight
A prime Louis I give a good shot under 190 though idk if he makes weight. Dempsey I definitely give a really good chance, 50-50 IMO. Langford for all his gifts doesnt beat Rocky IMO but makes it very interesting. In short I don give anyone 190 or less a great chance except Dempsey.
The RJJ version from the fight against John Ruiz (192-193 lbs), would be one of my candidates. That was the first thing that occurred to me; there are more candidates. I think that version of RJJ would be elusive for Marciano. RJJ wins on points.
I give Marciano odds on beating any HW, including Ali. I think a prime Liston would have given him the most trouble.
Hard finding a case for anyone else. Even Dempsey and Langford would have to go all out for victory. Maybe a Cruiserweight Evander Holyfield would push Rocky all the way.
Just watched RM fight Archie Moore. I'd pick a lot of Light heavyweights, and a lot of Cruiser weights to beat RM. I'd pick non champs such as James Scott, champs like Michael Spinks, too many to list them all. If RM beat them, I'd have to admit that RM had something I didn't see on video. I watched round 6 and 7 of the Moore fight because someone mentioned in a post that RM looked impressive in round 6. Obviously I missed the impressive part, either RM came along at the right time while the heavyweights were at a low spot because of WW2 and he was fighting poor competition, or if he was fighting good fighters, they too looked unimpressive and RM won because he had an "intangible" that couldn't be seen on video. Just watching RM fight on video, I wouldn't bet on him against many fighters.
If you can’t appreciate a Herculean like effort featuring 111 punches thrown, almost all power punches, while he batters down a red hot highly talented hall of fame champion in a toe to toe slug out..then idk what to tell you a few more to watch This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Prime Rocky's style is poison for any 190 pound Out-Boxer. I don't even see any 190 pound Swarmers hanging in there with him. Dempsey may have a chance because I don't really look at Jack as a pure Swarmer. Sluggers or Boxer/Punchers would have the best chance with him. Cruiser Weight Holyfield, at 190, has a good chance.
Holy at 190 wouldn't be experienced enough; he would get into a brawl and he loses that one. I favor Rocky over anyone at the weight, although I could see him losing to a number of fighters, but again not with confidence. Best shots are Dempsey perhaps and Spinks, Ezzard, Walcott. They still lose imo.
Maybe Dempsey or Spinx I'd slightly favor but I wouldn't be confident nor would I bet 1 cent. I can't think of any boxers below 190 who I'd be "confident" would beat Rocky. It isn't until you get to about 210+ that you can find fighters that you can confidently favor over Rocky (depending on their style and abilities).
Why do you think Moore looked "bad" vs Marciano, despite looking amazing in any other of his fight we have from that period?
