This bout has apparently ben penciled in for September and it's for the WBO title, Enzo's first fight since losing to Haye, and he is fighting for his old title against Johnathon Banks, i think the WBO have forgotten about Alexander Alekseev. That's boxing i guess.......hmmmm.
That is the Sports Network influence I guess. Getting sparked in two rounds and still retaining a ranking to challenge for a vacant title when there has been no ducking, no injuries and no iffy politics atsch Something is seriously wrong at the WBO. I understand it was formed by guys fed up with the lack of integrity at the WBA - yet they are far worse
Not quite. The WBA's recent list of shame includes mysteriously dropping Miranda out of the rankings to replace him with a Kazakhstani goat herder that is probably Borat's cousin, and then forcing a mandatory defence against some nobody named Haussler maintaining he was the actual #1 contender in the first place.
All in the name of $$$ They all have their downsides, but for me the WBO is worst. WBC - Emeritus Champion (WTF) WBA - Super Champion IBF - Chump mandatories WBO - Everything!
Yeah, they all have their flaws which is why I find it hilarious when guys are arguing the toss over which is least crap, or how we should only have 3 pieces of **** belts rather than the 4 as if it makes any difference.
I would like to see Maccarinelli fight Steve Cunningham, i read somewhere that Cunningham was calling out Haye, but id like to see him have a scrap with Enzo
I think Alexeev's team may have secretly pulled him from going for a title just yet so the WBO may have gone for then next best options. Alexeev is an obvious talent but has been kept safe so far in his career, a title fight would be too far a jump in class quite yet so maybe after a couple more build up fights we will get to see him going for a belt. The Hernandez vs Braithwaite situation may be the reason why they are keeping him on slow burner.
Enzo v Banks is a good match up for sure. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope Enzo can get the good win and his old title back.
Enzo seems to regard the WBO belt as "World Champion" and said in the local paper that winning the WBO belt would "reclaim my place at the top of the world" I can't agree He has to unify the division to do that he had his chance and Haye blasted him if Enzo had wan the Haye fight I would have really rated him as the Current NO 1 but he didnt win the fight he was blasted out in two but I think he it is accepatable for him to challenge for a WBO strap straight away he is the former champion and made several successful defences and why **** around with non title 10 rounds against European canon fodder best stick him back in where he was before the Haye fight instead of going backwards But unless Enzo can do more than just make routine defences of the WBO title again he will just be considered a paper champion by my local paper makes everyone believe before the Haye fight he was the NO 1 World Champion in the world
I would assume then that if this fight is to take place in September it may just be on the same card as Arthur v Cook and Khan's next fight at the M.E.N in Manchester? It's a decent fight for Enzo Mac, I think Banks is below average and if Macca jumps on him early I'd go for a stoppage win.
I met Enzo Maccarinelli at the Amateur G.B's in Wales at the weekend and had a photo taken with him and had the chance to have a quick chat with him, nice guy. I asked him about his next bout and he told me he's looking to fight Johnathon Banks for his old WBO Belt. He said "I'm looking to give that Yank a Spank and take my ****ing Belt back", 'Great Guy'.
