Peak Larry Holmes V Peak Rocky Marciano

I rank Holmes higher on my all time list, but, head-to-head, I think Rocky beats him by a close decision. It would be argued about endlessly. The Compu-Box punch stats may show an edge for Holmes, counting jabs, with Rocky Marciano having landed more power punches. There would be very long threads in this forum about it.

 

Rocky might knock him down, but Holmes slices him to bits for either a comfortable UD or a late cut stoppage.

The uppercut would knock Rocky down at some point. So, a great fight though very bloody.

 

Larry destroys Rocky. This is a ugly fight for Rocky. He never fought anyone with the skills of Larry. Holmes would be working that Jab all nite long not to mention landing uppercuts and that overhand right. He would stop Rocky around 8 or 9 rounds. And I don’t see Rocky hurting Holmes at all. He can take any punch Rocky can dish out.
I could see the Larry that fought Mercer beating Rocky!

Man you're a tough critic. Marciano made a career out of knocking out older hall of famers, and you pick a 42 year old man to beat him.

Also LOL at Marciano not being able to hurt holmes with his legendary right hand when 202lb Weaver put him in roller skates with it all night.

Weaver could hit harder than Rocky I think plus Larry had the flu that fight. Sorry I don’t see Rocky hurting Larry cause it’s gonna be hard for him to even hit Larry

Holmes clearly tripped. It wasn't a legitimate KD.

 

Tyson set him up for it after he landed his on Holmes it was over. Rocky would do the same.

 

Marciano is nowhere near as fast as Tyson, and that was 38 year old ring rusty Holmes were talking primes here.

 

Mike would have been chasing prime Holmes for 6 rounds before getting slowly nailed to the canvas in 10.

38 year old Larry Holmes was nowhere near the Holmes that dominated Trevor Berbick. Btw, neither was the Holmes who fought Holyfield (though granted, that was a non-ring rusty Larry).

 

And yet even in prime Larry was susceptible to the overhand right ala Shavers and Renaldo Snipes. Marciano punched more to the body and then did Tyson and would wear Holmes down and eventually out with the right hand. I like Larry immensely hes one of my all time favs but style wise Marciano is all wrong for him.

 

Weaver was not the right handed puncher Marciano was, get out of here. Rocky has a legendary right hand.

If you actually mean Rocky can't hit him with it because of Holmes height and defense, then you have a much better argument
