Who did Wilder beat? lol . Do you ever answer questions? Or only the ones that don't terminally capsize your opinion?
No, he wouldn't be without marketing magic. I wouldn't pick him vs anybody ranked in or near the top 10.
the answer is clear no. of currently ----- how many got there by beating any top 10? & if those who did so, how long ago is it?
The question is today’s top ten, not biding his time over an era until he gets a post COVID Povetkin or 2020 Kownacki. It is also a “would” question and not a “could” question. The answer to “would” is no unless all of the stars line up, the answer to “could” is yes.
Coetzer was tough and fit but had no pop and an entirely predictable attack. He kinda just appeared in the Top Ten without having had a signature victory. DuPlooy was probably his biggest win before facing Bowe. The top guys in the modern era would always walk through him. But heavyweight, even in its golden eras, has always been a shallow division. Check out some of the guys ranked in the bottom five during the 1970's. So, yes, he could be a blip on the Top Ten and would then get swatted by someone in the Top 5.
Bowe going low. What a surprise. Bowe, though, if he hurt his opponent was sadistic. Really great finisher. He brought the pain.
I really don't see why he couldn't with the right team and management. It's easier to get a top 10 ranking than to get a prize in a cereal box nowadays.
I didn’t interpret “today” as an unspecified length of time that spans a subjectively defined era. OP needs to clarify. But anyone capable of lasting until Glazkov blows his knee out is worthy of a belt and a ranking.
Throughout history there have been a lot of average fighters who have cracked top tens and in both strong eras and weak. So my answer is yes. He “ could “ potentially get in there somehow if he were around today. But I don’t say this out of any belief that Pierre Coetzer was exceptional. Padded record aside, his true abilities were probably that of a high end journeyman or perhaps barely fringe when at his best. No way should that guy have ever been in an elimination match to challenge for the linear title.
