He's another boxer who's not lived up to his promoters hype. Won't be the first or last and his career isn't done yet. If he was to beat Usyk, fury and wilder u think tbe stock of his era would go up and so would peoples thoughts of him as a fighter. He has a chance against Usyk but I must admit I think AJ is damaged goods.
Entertaining and basically accurate as always but I'm at a complete loss as to why you rate the Parker win as AJ's best: 1. Parker has no will to win and isn't a puncher, especially at 236 lbs. He came to surrender his paper title for a nice payday and to survive. Then in his next fight he got bullied around the ring and lost to Dillian Whyte. 2. AJ had a bodyguard referee who was preventing Parker from working on the inside and more importantly, constantly giving AJ a tactical breather so that the big stiff bodybuilder could go 12 rounds for the first time. And even then he didn't outpoint Parker by a big margin, the scoring was ludicrous. Parker isn't even an especially good pointfighter, getting disputed decisions against the likes of Ruiz and Chisora. In terms of who had the best chance of beating AJ aside from the fighters who did beat him, Wlad, Povetkin, Whyte and Ruiz 2 all rank well above Parker. Maybe even late sub Takam as AJ was gassing before the Matchroom stoppage.
The AJ-Fury fight was pretty much done and then the arbitration thing happened. So I’m not blaming AJ for that. Wilder admitted he was offered more money to fight AJ but fought Fury instead so I’m not blaming AJ for that either. At what point was AJ supposed to fight Fury then? When he was on a 3 year coke and food bender? That’s not his fault either. Threads like this are just completely laughable. I can only assume the poster is trolling tbh.
The Fury-Joshua fight won't happen because AJ can't go two fights without losing to a wide underdog. Hearn wasn't offering 50-50 or equal terms to Wilder or Fury until one had beaten the other. That was essentially a duck and history will view it as such if AJ loses to Usyk again.
That flat fee offer of £12.5 million from Hearn really maybe them look like the duckers they were / are.
I’d say taking less money to fight Fury cos he thought he was finished is ducking. The words came right from the horses mouth. 12.5 million was about 4/5 more times his biggest pay day at that point? How is that ducking? How much do you think Wilder was worth at that point in time? Honestly people get banned on these boards for such trivial things yet ridiculous threads like this are fine.
AJ losing has nothing to do with that fight not happening. It’s an all British fight that would break records in this country even now. If they both never make that fight then they are both ****ing stupid quite frankly.
What on earth had wilder done to deserve a 50-50 split? Nobody went to his fights, nobody pays to watch him on ppv. He would have brought nothing financially to the table. Even something like a 70-30 split at the time would have probably been his highest earning fight. Or as the poster above says £12.5 m would have been far higher than any previous earnings + the chance of undisputed. Any world level fighter would jump at that chance, however not one who had previously been called a “baby” by his own management and previously been told he wasn’t ready to unify despite being declared a world champion.
They knew he wouldn’t accept a flat fee, especially with AJ doing a million plus on UK PPV, plus they had just paid Parker not much less than that. If they really wanted to the fight they should have offered a 60/40 split. Massive error, then Fury took that scalp.
