Mayweather was excellent, nobody can deny it but like all fighters his resume can be picked apart and his choices of opponents and when he fought them can also be picked apart.. and also there are fighters he should have fought but didn't. I will maintain that Pernell Whitaker would have beat him senseless.. I have zero doubts about it. I also don't forgive Mayweather for not fighting the version of Pacquaio that fought Ricky Hatton, Mayweather waited until Pacquaio was iced before he went near him and that has to count against him. Mayweather wasn't the only fighter to do these things, fighters still do it now, the old "right fights at the right time" and sure it makes sense in business terms but legacy terms it has to count against you.
The way Floyd managed the latter half of his career put a bad taste in many peoples mouths but anyone who doesn't think he was one of the best to lace them up can instantly have their opinion on any boxing topic discarded.
Best of his era and one of the best ever, also the best antagonist in boxing.. until now people still hate him lmao.
One of the best we have ever had... This is how it is and I was never even a fan. What I liked most of Floyd is when he had difficult fight and he always found the way to win the fight. His adaptability was phenomenal...
I don't know why people say fast fighters like Khan would have given Floyd trouble, when pressure fighters who can cut off the ring, like Castillo and Cotto, have given Floyd the most trouble.
Idk he was good in his prime but wasted most of it facing bums. So I wouldn’t rank him to highly in the all time welter weight list but he was certainly a H2h contender to be a top 20 all time welter weight.
Floyd is a rare talent, one of the best to ever do it, and may not be another more gifted then him in a long time if ever again.... with that said. I couldn't stand him as a person, and he always put caution before brass most of his meaningful fights either happened too early or late into his opponents careers. Many fans will put an asterisk next to his wins its disgusting that the McGregor fight actually counts as a win toward his record just wish he took more risk and wasn't so cautious about loosing his stupid '0'
I think floyd is a Icon that's his peak In the ring-people who say he carefully selected opponents only talk bout him post 2008 retirement when he was money but don't realize he still beat all champions fom 09-2015 and I believe the notion pac and cotto was over the hill will die sooner because both of them became world champions again Outta the ring- made the most money and one of the most iconic personas him de la hoya are the 2 prime examples of beating boxing not it beating you
