In his prime who would you pick to beat him?

I think Andre ward and Roy Jones are two very good possibilities but I make no convictions either way

Jones jr, Ward, the James Toney that fought Barkley.

Probably quite a few. James Toney would absolutely smack the day lights out of Joe.

Dean Francis. Eubank (not on points). I don’t like Roy’s chances stylistically. Or Toney’s. Calzaghe’s style of defense is too effective against Roy’s punching style, anticipating/leaning back/turning….too busy for the stationaryish Toney. I actually like Steve Collins to stop him too, marauding in with sneak rights and grappling if falling short (hard to read/prevent Joe turning off).

Benn gets peppered to death with uncommitted speed shots in that low down pos

Calzaghe was always worth a bet.

Not a dead-cert, but I like him to have beaten anyone at 168.

Steve Collins possibly. Joe would have to work like a Trojan and get down in the murky waters to beat that guy. Collins was immense

Hopkins. Marshall. Jones. Ward. Would love to see him fight Watson there, maybe my dream fight at the weight.

I didn’t like to mention Watson (or McClellan).

This is the opinion of Calzaghe from a 2020 interview -

But Calzaghe appears to have no interest in taking Froch up on his offer.

"It's mad, I'm still living in his head after all these years," Calzaghe told talkSPORT. "I've done everything you can achieve in boxing.

"I know what would have happened and I don't take much notice of what he says. I'm 48 and I've been retired 10 years, I'm happy with my career. When I was at my peak I'd have been too fast and too sharp for him. I think I'd have beaten any super-middleweight, maybe not Roy Jones Jr at his peak."

I like the last line, he knows Roy would’ve been too much for him. I’d give edges to Ward and Toney aswell
