Headbutts, elbows, lowblows, sooner or later Tyson is going to bite a ear.

Rocky not need strategy lesson for Tyson.
Tyson is not going to be on the run.
Marciano just get inside and beat him

He'd better eat a whole lot of pasta and steroids to transform into a muscle bound 215 HW.
    That's step one.

Step two is to somehow weaken Tyson psychologically before the fight such that Tyson is crapping rope when the bell starts the fight.

Step three is stay away from that left hook, while taking a page from Buster Douglas book and lead with the right, follow it up with a swivel left hook ( I learned about that punch from Tim Bradley last week).

Marciano’s standard approach is already a horrible matchup for Tyson. Tyson hated guys that would stick to him like a second skin and Tyson going negative on the inside would not be a good idea against Marciano. Not to mention Marciano’s a very small target.

Marciano also tended to keep his head turned and past his opponent’s left shoulder, so even when Tyson managed to get some space to punch I don’t see Tyson having an easy time landing clean Marciano.

That said if Tyson manages to get some breathing room and catch Marciano clean coming up from the crouch it would be his best chance at stopping Marciano, since Walcott almost did it, but he screwed up his timing on his left hook.

I love Marciano and have him at either number 3 or 4 on my list of ATGs depending on the mood but I'm afraid their's not much he could do here. He has a disadvantage in power, size, speed, jab, boxing ability, chin, etc.

I think Dempsey would be much easier to train, as he's much closer in most of these aspects to Tyson.

However if I was to train Marciano, I'd have him take advantage of Tyson's weaknesses in stamina, and inside game.

We know Rock was a tough SOB, and had a seemingly endless gas tank. I'd have him stay on Tyson like a rash, disrupt his rhythm, pray he doesn't get caught, only go for body shots early, and most importantly DO NOT GO FOR ANY HEADSHOTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES IN THE FIRST FIVE ROUNDS. This will get him countered to death.

Even in the best case scenario, Rocky will still take a LOT of damage. The good news is he was one stubborn SOB, and didn't know the meaning of the word quit. If he's not KOd, he will continue to press forward undeterred.

Stay in real close. Don’t let Tyson get into his midrange. That’s when he’s dangerous. Work at a feverish pace but be careful the first six rounds. After that he’s toast. Watch Tyson v Holy

For a limited period Marciano was always going to be great at some point . Probably No longer than he was great. The retirement makes him look better than he was.

That said, because he didn’t deteriorate, we don’t get the flaws we should be able to envisage when interpreting Marcianos chances in these match ups.

I don’t think it’s as easy to say this guy was too fast and too good. Everyone Rocky beat was faster and better than he was. Rocky just had something over all of them. He landed more blows than he took. And he hit hard with each hand.

Rocky was often successful because the guys he fought all thought Rocky was going g to be easy to beat. He wasn’t.

it’s hard for a faster guy to realise the slower guy can still hit him. Tyson at his best was young. He had a great system that worked for him and no plan B. he became baffled.

it’s fine to suggest Douglas was a certain type..but if a guy gets baffled from one kind of guy he can get baffled from another kind of guy.

we don’t have enough examples of Marcianos career to say “ he couldn’t do this” instead we just have his prime where he ran out of challengers before he retired.

All I am saying is don’t write Rocky off.

My biggest suggestion would be to cash your check before the fight. Because you will be in no shape afterward.

almost impossible. Mike is just too strong for a 190 pound Rocky.. Tell Rocky to cover up and wait for Mike to be open and then unload. What else.

I don't know the whole story Rocky but some say he forced himself on an underage girl, he turned his back on some of the best trainers to exist, I don't think he was ever in the military or olympics

"I enjoyed building up hatred for the man I was going to fight"

"I would have liked to challenge anybody"

the fact that Marciano would have no fear reaction to Tyson would be a big chip in Tyson's armor

I would have Rocky study Cus' number system and everything about Tyson, we would find some 100-150lb rocks to squat and then push over head/toss at around 12,000ft after doing a Cus heavy bag session and running up a 5 mile mountain trail, along with push ups, sit ups, pull ups, dips, neck bridges, and a sequence of weight lifting motions done with varying sized rocks mixed in with sprints

only agreeing to the fight if it's 24 rounds

If you don’t know the whole story and can’t provide it with a source and evidence it’s highly irresponsible and extremely disrespectful to post such a thing.

Just a note on Mike's inside game or lack thereof, I used to notice in some fights when an opponent was trying to work it up close and personal, perhaps even being a touch rough, a "lost" looking Mike would sometimes look to the ref. as if it wasn't fair play and that the onus was on the ref. to help out and separate them.

It appeared Mike had absolutely no inclination toward legal, chest-to-chest mode of fighting and therefore simply didn't develop better strategies to cope with same. If Rocky could stick to Tyson like glue for a few rounds, as everyone here has already suggested, with the addition of some moves not entirely in accord with MOQ, I could seriously see Mike getting somewhat frustrated, perhaps complaining and appealing to the ref. - putting Mikey off his game a bit. Certainly, Marciano won't give two Fs and continue plying his trade.

As others have alluded to, if Rocky is prepared to lose a portion of his ear, he could work toward causing Tyson to DQ himself - which is a strategy of sorts - playing on Mike's "weaknesses".

That's an excellent post regarding Tyson's inside game. He definitely had some major deficiencies there, and it's perhaps never more apparent than in his fight with Bonavena.

Umm……In March 1943, Marciano was drafted into the United States Army for a term of two years. Stationed in Swansea, Wales, he helped ferry supplies across the English Channel to Normandy. After the war ended, he completed his service in March 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington
