Lee Selby retires

It's worth remembering that he climbed the boxing ladder without the glittering amateur career, no Olympics, no big sponsors. He came from an absolute hellhole (although I hold Barry very close to my heart) and went against the odds and the script that was written for him to become a World Champion. He'd have beaten Warrington if they'd have fought when they were supposed to and not when the weight cut was visibly destroying Selby. He'd have beaten Warrington if he didn't get those two bad cuts early on which clearly impaired his vision but it's all history now. I really enjoyed watching the brothers, Andrew especially and I'm still gutted that it's over for him, he should have been a World Champion, at least one of them was.

 

Very good post. Very true Lee came through the hard way, small hall shows, never having a big support behind him (a real shame.) Agree on weight issues.

 

Lee Selby deserves a lot of respect. A career he can be proud of. I wish him well in retirement.

Always found him dull to watch. Achieved plenty though. The Gradovich fight was his best performance

The guy who retired him - Gustavo Daniel Lemos looks a top prospect, defo gonna be watching his fights.
