Depends how he loses though, if he gets knocked out heavily, then what does that do for his longevity and selling power within the sport. It's a real "all in" kind of fight.
Yeah I mean I think it's a daft mismatch but I'm still looking forward to it. Even if it will definitely bring out the absolute worst of the casual fans.
Take away the names and personalities for a minute, you've got a relatively inactive 33 year old middleweight/super middleweight boiling down to 157 to fight a young, hungry 26 year old welter who can easily make that weight. It's all wrong for the bigger fighter. That's when shots they use take for fun really wobble them. Eubank is cashing out for this and the inevitable rematch. He has had opportunities to create some kind of legacy but he's instead lived off the name and focused on the wedge instead. Which is fair enough by the way. Good luck to him. Like other posters have said, it's pure WWE and the biggest available payday at this moment for both of them.
May as well hold my hands up from the off - this fights got me hooked. The Benn name sells. The Eubank name sells. Nostalgia sells. Yes they've shoe horned the weights and it's absolutely bizarre... but fascinating at the same time. This fight will be ****ing huge. It all simply depends on how Eubank handles the weight. I understand it's going to be at 157... so Benn is jumping up 10 pounds and Eubank coming down 3. I know people are saying Eubank was a former 168 but let's be real, he even said himself he was never a 168 and was underweight.... he was up there searching for the big fights (super six). However at the recent weigh in for Williams he looked tight at 160... so where are those additional 3 pounds going to come off. He'll surely have to kill himself to make weight so it really depends on whether he can take his chin into the fight. He's got a superb chin so if it's still intact, I think Benn starts sharp but it's only a matter of time before Eubank - being the naturally bigger man - takes over and bullies him. If not, then the shots he's used to walking straight through will suddenly be buzzing him. And Benn will be chomping at the bit early, catching him clean. I think if Benn starts to take heavy shots then Sims won't hang around with the towel.
FFS, this fight is nothing more than a publicity stunt, it shouldn't be happening and it could IMO be potentially very dangerous for both of them, Eubank Jr if he's too weight drained and Benn because he could get badly hurt simply because Eubank Jr's much bigger than him.
157 is a real problem for junior Chris maybe but the rehydration number will be bigger problem. they will make him stay low weight overnight. how low? I have not heard. but it iwill be s unlikely they will not have rehydration clause second weigh in
If it's £100k fine per 1 pound he is over...... given the money he stands to earn I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the fine and weighs in at 160
This is the heart of the rip-off. This is a money fight but means zero in terms of Benn's career at 147 (or 154 if he stays higher) so if he's in any real danger they'll yank him out. Eubank doesn't give up easily so as long as he's on his feet come the late rounds you could see Benn being withdrawn for his own good.
Did losing to Eubank hurt Blackwell? He could get a severe pasting here. I can’t see anyway this doesn’t end in a brutal win for Eubank. He will probably toy and showboat in there with him.
Completely agree with the bold. Sims will have the towel in early unless Eubank can knock him out properly, which I wouldn’t bet against.
