Let's also give him credit for immediately taking on Golovkin in 2015 when GGG was being ducked by everyone (Canelo included). Lemieux could perfectly have grown his title against easy challengers like Stevens.
He put up a good fight too and did land some big ones. Could have lasted longer too. Let's also remember that he was promised a fight with Canelo by Goldenboy around that point but Canelo ducked him. So Canelo actually ducked both during their primes.
Good call , there's really not any avenues for him for him to somehow resurrect his career at 168 with the fighters that are there now. And he's probably too smart to be a gatekeeper at that weight. Good luck in the future Lemmy.
Can't say I ever was a fan, but he showed a big set to the end and you've got to appreciate that. Demonstrated tremendous fighting character in a practically hopeless cause in his final outing. He was no Matthysse-like hollow bullyboy. I'd guess he was already mulling it over and personal tragedy finalized the decision. Hope he finds some reconciliation and peace in retirement.
He had a good career. He had some crazy good knockouts. He landed some good punches in his last fight but they had little effect. and that would have been too hard moving forward. I remember him on TSN with Russ Anber and having clips shown to explain boxing.
Always liked Lemieux & he was straight business & no Trashing his opponent's or any general BS, Good dude.
He was shot & killed . My sincere condolences to David & family. Have a long happy healthy retirement champ you've earned it
