Is it time to get ride of his Uncle? I know that they don't see eye to eye on everything and I know up until the Margarito fight there can be reason to doubt but when that 0 goes the fighter will look around him.

Apparently he gets pissed off in the gym he uses because he has to share equipment.

Should Cotto get out of Puerto Rico and train in the States, up in the mountains or something?

There is still room for improvement I just wonder if his current team have taken him as far as they can.

True. But who would he go with? He'd need to relocate.

He's into UFC now, holy crap! I thought, physically, he wasn't too great. Cotto with Floyd Snr - just to be a fly on the wall

It's certainly prime time for Cotto to take a second, third, niner or whatever count he's at look at it. I think the training in the states thought is a good idea. At this point,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,back to the drawing board, so to speak.

So did Cotto. Cotto skipped out on his dad and is trained by his uncle too.
Joe Calzaghe's trained by Enzo Calzaghe and is unbeaten. It's worked in every fight for Cotto so far and everyones talked about how impressive he looked. I think credit should be given to Margarito for his outstanding effort, he didn't take a single step back all night. Surely this is better than looking for reasons why Cotto lost? Marg was the better man on the night.

That's not totally true.... he's fought a lot of world champions / former world champions.. and even if you're fighting B / C grade fighters you still need proper preparation and the right training to be able to make 20 + defences.

I agree that not having a good relationship with his uncle (Cotto) isn't very productive, but it seems to have worked thus far......it's only one loss to someone who just wouldnt be denied on the night. Cotto looked impressive before marg started wearing him down I thought?

I'm going to go out and say it. Hire Floyd Mayweather Sr.

I dont think he was receiving great advice in the fight: It was pretty clear early on that hitting Margo in the face wasn't going to get him anywhere, but he was never instructed to work the body enough.

In their defence though, they definitely pulled him at the right time he was clearly totally exhausted.

Everyones talking like Cotto did something wrong and that he needs 'fixing' somehow, but he fought beautifully,Margarito was just a monster who wouldn't be denied is all

Cotto needs a new trainer. Cotto did not make adjustments; which could have won him the fight -- e.g., go to the body to slow down Margarito; stop back pedaling 90%. During the earlier rounds, when Cotto came forward, he landed clean shots that stopped Margarito's pressure (temporarily). I don't think his trainer had a great fight plan; and certaintly didn't suggest any adjustments during the fight. Perhaps Cotto would be a good fit with Floyd Mayweather Sr. I think with a better trainer and fight plan, Cotto could be Margarito in a rematch.
