Good point and not only that, but strength and punching power are often completely seperate factors.
Lacy vs Trinidad would be great examples, I'd lay some money down that Tito packs a harder punch, while in terms of outright strength Lacy would be twice as strong.

I think they both had similar punching power. But Tony just walks thru Cotto's punches like nothing.

cotto could have done MUCH better. he could have created MANY of angles and decided not to. i don't know y not. but a good slick boxer would have seen the angles and made them happen. margo was open for a lot of shots but cotto just wasn't throwing them. it was frustrating to watch

Agreed. However Cotto is no Mayweather. Slick is not how I would describe Miguel Cotto. I believe he would have gotten the better exchanges, and taken alot of pressure off, if he had stood his ground or pushed forward for a good 30-45% of the time, rather then the 2% of each round he actually did.

you have made some true and clear statements but wot made cotto lose was the missjudement he had the right idea but used it at the wrong times but the angles he used made him the clear man ahead on the cards i dont think the box n move style was the problem because he used his disadvantages height and reach and Build he used all those attributes to the best of his ability and it gave margarito clear problems it took 7rounds b4 margarito could evan adjust himself so give miguel the credit wer it was due

I think Miguel Cotto lost because Margarito was just too much for him tonight. Miguel fought very good, but Margo didn't let him pull it all the way to the end of the fight. I think it was an instant classic and a great victory for Mexico. Lots of respect to both fighters and may they heal well and soon.

it´s exstremly frustrating not to have watch the fight!!!
hopefully some of it will come to youtube...
but from what i can see,the fight was just as rough and tough as everybody was talking about.i was sure cotto would win this one-but margarito is just that bit tougher...i just hope to be able to watch this fight!!
and congrats to margarito,a true warrior!!!

Had he come forward Cotto would have been out of there earlier. He saw Cintron couldn't do it so he didn't either.

thats not the way boxing works ever time. What about the Qualites that dont get taught like Chin, WIll and balls.

Great strategy but you could see from the opening bell that cotto was not comfortable with the style .
His side to side move movement became more and more erratic , the fight started to resemble the Corrales vs Freitas fight. In both fights freitas and cotto use movement to out box corrales and Margarito , only to burn them selves out in the later rounds.

I agree with AJ. Ironically, Cotto coulda won the fight by doing the opposite -- i.e., instead of back pedaling and giving Margarito a full advantage of his superior reach, he should have stepped forward and give Margarito a quick exchange to stop Margarito's progress in moving forward. When Cotto did that in the earlier rounds, I noticed what Aj said: Margarito did stop and he was outhit by Cotto in those exchanges w/clean shots. Ironically, Cotto did not go to work on the body.

Cotto's corner did a terrible job in not making adjustments. I think Cotto can beat Margo in a rematch, but he needs a better corner and a new trainer.

It was a great fight and you can't take anything away from Margo. Margo did what he had to do to win whereas Cotto did not make the necessary adjustments to win a close fight.
