Quite a few actually. Duran was still world class at middle otherwise he doesnt go 15 with Hagler or beat Barkley. In the fight with Hagler Duran was simply too skilled for Hagler to run over as many predicted. Hagler was a legit mw, Duran was a natural Lw, if Duran was closer to natural mw, Duran beats him badly.
Jermain Taylor was an underrated reply to the thread question. What about Nigel Benn? I know sparring should be kept separate, but I got the impression he gave Duran too much respect when they met in '88.
I wouldn't underestimate Antuofermo. He's a good middleweight. He and duran would be a very sweet matchup.
Duran fought an outstanding fight to be honest Hagler's chin was the difference. Those counter righthands Duran was landing quite often would have had a telling effect on most 160lbers even with good chins. Marvin had an uncommon ability to take a shot.
That would have been a good inside fight. They had the same trainer probably alot of the same infighting tactics. Duran had more pop in his punches and a bit slicker. Yes a good battle though.
The best middleweight Duran could beat? I think the best version of Duran could beat Mike McCallum. Not a sure thing ofcourse but Mike would fight more of Duran's type of fight. The age matters though it had to be 1983 Roberto Duran. He still had some of his quickness left.
I agree i think Antuofermo gets a bit underrated, sure his style wasn't pretty but it was effective. And whilst i thought Hagler did deserve the decision against him in their infamous draw, i still thought the fight was very competitive. Antuofermo came on strong later showing how effective he was.
