Jerry Quarry Vs David Tua?

I would favor Quarry, but his tendency to brawl and get cut could cost him. If he boxes Tua, uses counters, and has responsible defense he could pull it off but it would be a very difficult fight either way.

 

Interesting, very good match up, that's got me thinking, Quarry could well have been my fav HW of the early 70s, something about him, Graham Houston one time editor of BN said of him " he looks like a rugged version of Glen Campbell " and he did, thinking the Jerry of late 60s to 72 would have stood a better chance of a winning, the later version was a bigger, slower, fighter, more easy to land on, not that was ever hard where Quarry was concerned, still not an easy task up against Tua, on balance feel that Jerry would ride the big shots coming his way, and counter with hard, hurtful, shots that would pull Tua up, and give him pause for thought, with not a lot of conviction, going with Jerry to outpoint Tua, after a torrid fight.

Yes, Tua was dangerous throughout the entire fight. The moment Quarry tries brawling, it will be very difficult to shift the momentum back to boxing since he was too brave for his own good. Quarry could bang, but it would be very foolish and lacks the size to just stand there trading with a behemoth like Tua. Tough as he is, he likely gets stopped or suffers a bad cut if that happens.

 

Tough match up Quarry has fared well against punchers Shavers, Lyle, Foster, even Patterson could bang. But Tua i believe may be a bit more dangerous than those opponents, simply due to the fact Tua carries his power from round 1 to 12. Tua has stopped fighters in 12th Izon, 11th, Masakev. So if Quarry even switched off for a second it could spell the end for him. Also Frazier was able to land his left hook vs Quarry which was Tua's beat weapon.

I honestly wouldn't be able to make a solid prediction either way, Quarry certainly has the counter punching ability to outbox Tua. And we've seen Tua outboxed in fights for large periods vs Masakev, Rahman, etc. But Quarry did sometimes have moments where he would rather slug than counter punch, and as i stated earlier Tua carries his power all the way through a fight, so that would be a dangerous thing to do for Quarry.

Overall the very best version of Quarry say his performance vs Lyle, i would probably lean towards Quarry winning a decision. But i say that with absolutely no conviction at all.

 

Quarry by decision but it will be like walking through a mine field, one wrong move and Boom!

 

Like previous posters have pointed out Jerry tended to do well against big punchers.It certainly wouldn`t be easy but Quarry by decision as long as his eyes hold up

 

You would have to make Quarry the favorite in all fairness.

 

Quarry by decision. Jerry is the superior boxer by some margin. Tua had a great left hook, but, a low boxing IQ. This is exactly the kind of matchup Quarry lives for. He would not fear Tua in the least.

 

Jerry boxes, moves, counter punch and easily wins a decision over Tua.

 

Tua has Quarrys guts for garters. Total mismatch
