He definitely improved since his Molina fight. Go watch it - he was 3x times worse than tonight.. Hope he improves as he is still young and has the time to do so. But yes - currently he is not ready for a title.
He showed grit but the flaws are now obvious to future opponents. He's dangerous when pressing but when forced back he's far less dangerous and he has no inside game, Zhang was picking him apart in close and Hrgovic clearly is too easy to hit, he was eating counters all fight long. He won't beat Usyk or Joshua when he gets his title shot, at least not based on that performance.
some people overrate Hrgovic i never see him as a top 10 heavyweight but i expect better against an old man 30 age against 39 age & Zhang = clumsy plodding giant Hrgovic went life & death i am not sure he deserve win at all he is worse than i thought but was good fight good entertaining
What I was surprised about was how poorly he handled the couple of times Zhang hit him hard. Zhang did not have the legs or energy to follow up but someone like Wilder would put Hrgovic to bed.
The stories of Hrgovic's iron chin do seem to have been exaggerated, Wilder could probably put him to sleep. That is if Wilder doesn't get slept himself first. Zhang had to eat some huge shots himself to land his power shots and based on the stories of when they sparred Hrgovic clowned Wilder.
Yeah, but sweet Jesus, this chin. If Hrgovic goes on to achieve things, Zhang should be forever remembered as the man who baptised him in fire. What an inferno of fear, expectations, and uncertainty. The troubling camp, the knockdown, the cut. Something's changed in the Croatian: he either embraces it now or fades away. Hopefully he takes notice of how much Zhang's experience and mentality aided him through.
Everything about Hrgovic was oversold, starting with his power and ending with his chin, with his skills somewhere there in the middle. The worst thing about him is is lack of concentration. Reminds you of Michael Moorer.
If Zhang was a few years younger and had a gas tank that allowed him to go more than 6 rounds, he would have KTFO’d Hrgovic. Any half decent fighter beats him, I think I’d favour Old Man Chisora to do a job on Hrgovic tbh.
Showed heart and determination, but he showed he his power isn't top tier and his defence isn't the best. Needs to improve but showed intaligables.
