Good post. Can add from someone who works in the television and media world that it is far more difficult than people think at home in the living room.
No problem with Woodhouse, she's fine doing what she does. Clarke was really good and I don't mind Froch.
Woolhouse knows absolutely nothing about boxing. Surprised people here seem to rate her as a presenter. If Sky were serious about employing a knowledgeable woman as a presenter there must be a large pool of retired female boxers to choose from. Having said that we all know why she has the job.
Why would Sky employ - and have to train up - a boxer over someone who's qualified and worked their way up through the industry? Why does the presenter need to know anything (beyond basic research and taking an interest) about the sport? I remain one of those people that can't understand how Gary Lineker ever got a presenting job - he's wooden and forced compared to even the more junior presenters who chose to do it. So was Bob Wilson back in the day. Bring back Jim Rosenthal!
They don’t. I’m not suggesting that the presenter needs encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport but someone made a comment about Woolhouse “knowing what she’s talking about” and that just isn’t the case.
I think Woolhouse was alright, she’s the presenter who links the views from the ex fighters, keeps it flowing. And she seems to know enough about boxing to do that. The presenter doesn’t have had to be a fighter, theres 3 others there for that. She doesn’t well from what I saw. Clarke was brilliant, don’t mind froch was ok last night. Okolie was a bit of a non entity like. Maybe I’m easily pleased but thought they were all ok, and enjoyed the night
I think Woolhouse is fine- as I’ve said before you need an anchor role in the mould of a Clare Balding who does her research and can easily set up questions for the ex sportspeople to answer. An issue for Sky is that these fight nights sometimes go on for six hours or more and you need more than two talking heads with the anchor which means quality will drop inevitably. To counter act this you could do more pre recorded packages and features during the broadcast itself. Tricky to do with the unpredictable nature of boxing but not impossible.
Did anyone else notice that Sky gave Dave Coldwell controls to the thermostat on Saturday night? Frazer Clarke had a right sweat on.
One of the problems was that the fights kept ending early and left gaps which were being filled with inane studio chat as they had no backup.
No issues with Anna Woolhouse at all. Decent set of pins on her as well which is a plus. I thought Frazer Clarke was a breath of fresh air and came across really well. Don't mind Froch Okolie was ****ing useless. May as well just have a plant pot in his place.
For a company as big as Sky to have such a bunch of ****ing bellends ruining every boxing broadcast is comical. At least have Carl Froch as the main presenter ffs, if only for a laugh.
