Was it really a gift decision? Seems like the consensus was 114-113 And lots of the erratic nature of the fight was due to Zhang fading down the stretch (like expected) and HRG seeming to forget he was in a boxing ring multiple times, giving Zhang a free shot. Seems like overall he's slightly better as Zhang, but not the level of a guy that is ducked by almost the entire top 5 to 25. I have to admit I thought he would demolish Zhang.
Was not a gift decision tbh. I was rooting for Zhang and placed a bet on him to stop Hrgovic in 4 rounds (which almost happened), but in the last 6 rounds combined I don't think he landed 10 punches. Probably 114-113 either way was correct, not a robbery imo.
It was close, but not a robbery. I am very disappointed about Hrgovics weird performance and he also got more hurt than Zhang, but Hrg was way more active, landed more shots and thats how scoring works. Hrgovic 114-113 is OK Draw would be OK too Zhang 114-113 would be OK too Maybe it should be at least a SD or MD.
a lot of people have been harsh on hrgovic..the knockdown was a blow to the back of the head, so, if it wasn't ruled as a knockdown, it would've made a difference on the scorecards..corona, and the lockdowns didn't do him favors with layoff (it did with others too), but he also had fights fall through..one thing i haven't heard mentioned was the clash of heads..even though it was accidental, i think it bothered hrgovic a lot more than zhang..he wasn't the same after that and it showed..i've seen fights where fights have had head clashes and it really changes the course of a fight ..he fought a dangerous southpaw, and did well.. he was putting his punches together well..hats off to zhang, he did better than a lot of people thought he would, but i really think the clash of heads played a big part in hrgovic's performance...people were saying he was gonna get his chin tested,,he did...
It was a very weird performance. I thought maybe he was dehydrated. Never seen anyone forget they were boxing like that but still finish the fight, it was uncomfortable to watch the last few rounds. I don't know, it leaves a question as to whether something was up (concussed early, heat stroke) or if he's just not top level.
114-113 Zhang What pisses me off is Hrgovic's attitude. Sometimes it looked like he didn't even want to be there, turning on his back and forgetting to fight. Zhang was the only fighter with some sort of hunger, and in my cards he won close only because he gassed out as usual, but he took Hrgovic to school and dropped him on his lazy ass.
I agree that Zhang deserved to win because he threw harder and more effective punches, Hrgovic threw more punches but a lot of them hit Zhang's gloves, Zhang was overall more accurate, what hurts me the most is that Hrgovic won that way and the media they are slandering him now, I would like to see a rematch, Hrgovic was bad but he can improve, I hope he will...
It was a competetive, close fight - hard to say it was a gift - I had it to Zhang by 1 point simply due to the KD. I think the UD was a bit harsh on Zhang. Biggest worry for Hrgovic is the uneven - almost schizo - nature of his performance; at times he looked liked to completely different boxers, one stringing together decent combos and boxing well, whislt the other looking disinterested and on the verge of quitting Very odd
Here is the official stats: HRGOVIC Total: 208/705 , 29.5% Jabs: 40/327 , 12.2% Power: 168/378 , 44.4% ZHANG Total: 154/395, 39% Jabs: 5/88 , 5.7% Power: 149/307, 48.5%
I re-watched the fight yesterday and Hrgovic clearly won. The scorecards were fine. - the commentary was very pro-Zhang and misleading - the first round knockdown wasn't a knockdown - Hrgovic was winning the round - Hrgovic's knockdown of Zhang later in the fight should have been counted - the ref should have been wiping the floor between rounds, instead of giving the gassed Zhang a rest Zhang had one very dominant round 6, but to his credit Hrgovic although badly hurt did not go down. After that for the last 6 rounds, Zhang was tired and threw few punches, while being hammered by Hrgovic.
