Size is overrated at a certain point but it matters, AJ didn{t know how to use it to tire usyk. Any men around 200-220 is powerful enough to knock anybody out. The difference is about skills theres no much talent pool in hw nowadays, they just focus in getting big and powerful but skill wise current era is just awful and I think decline started after they bring down to 12 rds I wish we could go back to 15 , boxing was the biggest sport in the world around the 30s and 40s there were boxing clubs in every corner now we are on a sad decline, boxing business hurt the sport too much, many belts and weight classes

 

Usyk weighs about as much as George Foreman in his prime. This idea that Usyk is ‘small’ is bonkers, he’s the same height as Ali, think he has a similar reach as well. About a stone heavier than Frazier in the FOTC.

I don’t think they realise that Marciano would have competitive fights with Briedis and Gassiev himself. If you chucked every pre-Liston champ into Usyk’s cruiserweight division I think there’s every chance Usyk still comes out on top. Based on the tape Briedis and Gassiev would beat Carnera and Willard, and would make for great fights with Baer, Schmeling, Braddock, even Louis. Fights with Ingo and Patterson are good fights.

Southpaw aside, I don’t know how people see Holmes being hurt by Snipes, Weaver, having a tough fight with ‘Spoon, having a legit jabbing battle with The Truth, and still consider it blasphemy to assume Usyk could potentially beat him.

I get thinking prime Foreman, Tyson, Lewis might be a bridge too far but way too much rose-tinted spectacle wearing on this board. You’d probably get people thinking Jeffries and Sharkey could outlast him, or that Johnson would be able to outclinch him. It’s bias, plain and simple. Usyk would paste Dempsey and Marciano and all the 50-year olds need to deal with it.

 

Me too. I think some people watch Usyk fight, they see that Joshua is bigger than Usyk so they think Usyk is small. Usyk also moves like a small guy, so they can't understand that he is bigger than Jamaica Foreman. Usyk is a big heavyweight, just not big compared to Fury, Wilder, Joshua, Hrgovic, Joyce, Miller, Helenious, Oriz, etc. Usyk, at 6-3, 220+, has movement, strength, speed and skill in a combination that is probably unmatched. In addition, he is a southpaw.

Weight cutting to make Cruiserweight does not make a fighter small. Probably any heavyweight champion in history with the exception of Willard and Carnera (prior to 1990) could have dried out, made modern Cruiserweight and fought at their normal fighting weight the next day. The only thing Usyk's success has made me rethink is that if he had come along prior to 1985 he probably would have to turn around and fight orthodox if he wanted to get any fights.

He weighs the same as prime & foolishly dehydrated Foreman due to building himself up, although yes Usyk is not small by any normal adult male standard he is large.

You could say in general terms, that his success and that of Holyfield, makes it plausible that somebody like Joe Louis could be successful today.

Usyk has competed at many weights, and he has gradually grown in to what we used to recognise as a HW, whilst others have been competing at HW in the AMs and go up to super HW where they believe constantly that they have to come in heavier etc etc, and they carry this into the pros, and it puts them at an immediate disadvantage when fighting smaller but still a HW fighter.

Usyk is one clever and smart individual who timed his appearance in the HW division to perfection, for me i have always found the saying, a goo d big one will always beat a good little one, Usyk proved this saying should be reversed.

Herbie Hide who is much smaller Than AJ i believe would have stopped him late, Mike Tyson would have destroyed him even quicker, i would even go as far to say that Scott Welch would have kicked his arse.
