Sonny Liston 1960 vs Michel Spinks 1985, 15 rounds, who wins and why?

Richard, first it was Frank Bruno, now you want to get Michael Spinks killed lol?

 

If Spinks shows up scared, he goes out early and brutally.

Otherwise, i think he brings a fight plan which would be similar to the one Eddie Machen used against Sonny. Circle outside, jab, wait to counter with the Spinks jinx ,use his speed, wait for a mistake ex... But Liston would have used his reach advantage of 8 inches, jabbed, gone to the body and boxed..

Spinks probably had more power than Machen, but i doubt he was faster.

Sonny would definitely be the heavy favorite but I could see Spinks winning this on the outside. With that said, I wouldn't bet on it but I could see him frustrating Sonny.

I said "probably".But i also think that machen's power is underrated, and part of that was due to his style.

 

I love Michael Spinks but I can’t see a pathway to victory here. He was often a slow starter and he’d be facing one of history’s most ferocious heavyweight punchers. And not just a hard hitting thug either but a guy who knew how to box, had an all time great left jab, deadly right cross and plenty of reach in the arm.

 

It’s difficult to gauge. Spinks was a legitimately powerful hitter at 175 but over 195 his punching ability remains a question mark. Battering Steffen Tangstad and a retired Gerry Cooney doesn’t tell us a whole lot

 

Cooney was never Chuvalo when it came to durability but Father Time and drugs had reduced his durability to the point where he was getting rocked and staggered by punches he would’ve easily shaken off in his prime.

 

Probably true. Gerry Cooney was never the poster boy for durability but I think his durability eroded over the course of time and bad living
