Since Cotto lost, is Paul Williams the number 1 WW?

It seems to me that since Cotto lost, it makes Paul Williams the #1 WW. I mean he beat Margarito, avenged his only loss devastatingly. What do you all think? I mean how can Margarito be #1 when he was dominated by Paul? I support a rematch, but it seems clear to me that until there is a rematch Paul is now #1.

it doesn't work like that, to be number 1 you have to beat the number 1, so it makes margarito number 1

Not nessesarily....but I do agree that last night makes Margo number 1. Now if Williams had never lost to Quintana...then you have an arguement.

And it sets up a Williams - Margarito II quite nicely.

After watching Margo last night, it's obvious Paul Williams would win with a wider margin. Margo is all pressure with **** poor defense and limited boxing skill. He wouldn't be able to bully Williams like he did with Cotto, I would expect another decision win for Williams if they fought again.

How did Cotto get to be number one in this equation then?

I think Paul would win again if he fought Margarito. There is nothing different about Margarito . Paul Williams beats him to the punch just like last time, taking about 9 out of 12 rounds.

I think it is ridiculous to try to say Cotto was a clear #1 WW. He only fought 3 legit WW guys. I see his record no better than Paul Williams or Margarito's coming into the fight, he just happend to be backed by HBO.

It is ridiculous though if you really are going to rate Margarito higher than Williams though.

Paul wont get a luckt late start out of Margs again
Margs took PW as just another mandatory and didnt even get into the fight until the 6th and at the end of the fight PW was running for his life

When Margs starts from round 1 PW is done inside of 8

Margo didn't beat the number 1. Margo is number 2 and PW is number 1. Anyone who disputes this doesn't have a ****ing clue.

PW can't make WW. Besides, he'll lose to Margo on part II.

Yes, he is. He beat Margo and though he lost to Qunitana, he still owns the head to head with the division's other king, Tony.

Margo and Williams rule the division, and a rematch is inevitable.

Nobody thought Margarito was number one when Williams beat him

Nobody thought Quintana was number one when he beat Williams

Nobody thought Williams was number one when he beat Quintana in the rematch

So why would Williams become number one without even fighting? Makes no sense
