Usyk as a heavyweight is no bigger than comeback Joe Louis. In fact, Usyk is just two years younger than comeback Joe Louis.

So what’s so hilarious about comparing usyk to Dempsey and Marciano?

from Harold Kaese, “In a Game That’s Noted for Its Punks, Phoneys, Rocky Stands for Class, Boston Globe (Sept. 20, 1952), p.7
" According to Reinault, the meat is usually steak or roast beef—rare. Lamb, veal, and a little chicken for variety. Baked potatoes, green vegetables, and plenty of salads with oil and vinegar dressing. Oh yes—tea.

No Italian foods. No pork. No pastry. No ice cream."

The fact that no fighter with a similar build managed to become as successful as Rocky was doesn't necessarily means that Boxing evolved since the days where someone like Rocky was ruling the division, but it shows how great and determined the rock really was.

It suggests that they perceive their chances to be a lot better in the lower weight classes. But just because their chances are better in lower weightclasses doesn't mean a Rocky-like fighter's chances are zero. Just low enough that it's not a wise business decision to make a career at heavyweight today. Which is why we have no examples to go off of.

Fantasy fights are quirky things. Different calculations come into play than they would in real career decisions.

Marciano probably loses to Lennox, and by a solid margin. I'd expect it to be a decisive loss. But the presence or absence of Marciano-sized fighters in the modern division needs to have qualifiers attached.

You're missing the point. Hard punchers don't necessarily have a ton of great wins, if any. They just punch hard. Rahman punched plenty hard (only man to unofficially drop a prime Tua; no one else came close).

You didn't know that fighters outside of HW cut weight? How long have you been following the sport?

I'm not making it your problem. I'm saying it's an impossible thing for anyone to prove, expert of otherwise, that Marciano was the hardest training HW that ever lived (this is what you said, not that he simply had a great work ethic).

What do you mean by 'modern nutrition'? Steroids? Yeah, Marciano could bulk up and become a five foot ten ball of muscle and heart condition, and still be massively outgunned by even average sized HWs. Not sure what the point of that would be though.

I'd bet on Marciano. He had an unparalleled will to win.

All heavyweights punch hard…but if your going to rule out shavers or Marcianos ability to reproduce the right hand that Rahman used on the basis that Rahman hit harder.. then I don’t know what to say.

I don't believe I claimed that Rahman hit harder than Shavers. He might have done with that one shot he landed on Lewis, which was as flush and turned over a right hand as any thrown, but overall his body of work didn't show the same sort of heavy handedness as Shavers.

But he could punch; that shouldn't be in question. He was a massively strong near 240lbs fighter with wrecking ball sized fists who threw his full weight into his OH right out of a low stance. So a harder puncher than Marciano, a modern day LHW? Yeah, I'll make that claim for sure.

His main problems were that he wasn't a very smart boxer who moved through concrete for most of his career.

I agree. On that same basis, Frazier would have no problem with Foreman. Oh wait.

Do you pick Lennox to wipe Frazier out like Foreman did?

It'll be a replay of Lewis vs Botha, but Lewis crushes him in one round instead of two.

The Louis that Marciano fought was a balding, pudgy, bloated shell of his former self who admitted he couldn't pull the trigger on his right hand. What is hilarious is you comparing that version of Louis to what is a close-to-prime Usyk.

Lol of course i do, but i never really took a detailed look at this thing.
Well you present no facts, just your personal opinion - which you have every right to have.
bigger size differences have been overcome. Many big HW's,including the great ones, got beat up by far smaller and shorter opponents.

Still, i would favor Lewis but it's never going to be a "party time" for him.

Rahman didn’t have to be a harder puncher than Rocky to knockout Lewis. He just needed to land the same kind of overhand right..and land flush without Marciano kind of power.

Marciano was not a modern day light heavyweight. He was a short heavyweight.

No. That’s not what I was doing.

you were saying it would be hilarious to compare Usyk to Dempsey and Marciano. Implying the size differential would be comical.

And Im saying what is so hilarious “if Usyk, at 35 was no bigger than a 37 year older Joe Louis”? which states that a comparable size difference had been overcome at world level anyway.
