Since Cotto lost, is Paul Williams the number 1 WW?

I say Paul Williams is still the best welterweight, I guess, but Margarito certainly could beat him. Avenging that loss could be dangerous, but then again so was fighting him in the first place and fighting Miguel Cotto. In my opinion, Cotto is a great fighter, but he is just to hitable. I knew Margarito would test his jaw, but Cotto showed some real heart. I said well before this fight Cotto couldn't beat Floyd and I still believe that. Margarito should move up and make some well deserved money. DLH probably wants no part of that freight train. Just watching old Margarito fights all week, I wondered how this guy could be stopped. He honestly is getting better. Pretty scary thought.

Margo lost to PW 3 fights ago. I would say he needs to beat Paul to be the clear #1.

And Williams lost to Quintana 2 fights ago and just recently avenged that. So that just proves that he should be rated higher that Quintana right now!

    No higher than that!

PW is not the best WW because he beat Margo. But he's comeback from his defeat and shown he has power by knocking out a top WW. He's now the #1 contender behind AM since Floyd is retired.

    So what is your point.

Going by what you are saying then you have no problem with any of these theoretical rankings.

    1. Margarito
    2. Williams
    3. Cotto
    4. Quintana
    5. Clottey

    or

    1. Williams
    2.Margarito
    3.Cotto
    4.Quitana
    5.Clottey

and all the other derivatives as long as Paul is higher than Quintana right?

Take in to account that PW blitz him in 1 round and it leaves room for people to believe there first fight was a fluke. Williams went 12 with Margo and won. 2 things Cotto could not.

    My point was simple.

Margarito just beat the man considered #1 so he becomes current #1.

Is that simple enough for you:hi:

Lineage doesn't rule in boxing when talking about contender status. Only in championships. And the 147 championship is vacant.

Williams is better than Margarito, as he proved when they fought. So he's #1.

Asterion pretty muched answered your statement. Cotto was for some reason the number 1 WW not the WW champ. Again there is no way you can rate Margarito higher than Williams when Williams beat him throughly in their fight.

    Bull****.

Williams beat Margo one year ago and then lost to Quintana who had lost to Cotto.

By your own silly arguments that would mean that that loss automatically placed WIlliams below Quintana and Cotto.

Beating Quintana in the rematch was just his first step on the way back to redemption, the Margo victory was in the past he doesn't get credit for that when considering who the CURRENT #1 is.

You ****in haters make up some tricky and biased rules in order to accomodate your agendas:lol:

But he KOed Quintana in the rematch. In the early rounds. If he hadn't, of course he would be below Quintana in the rankings. But he did KO him.

The Margo victory was one year ago. The past?

Only in your brain Williams doesn't get credit for that victory.

    Accept it:

    Williams beat Margarito.

    He.

    Is.

    Better.

    And.

    Should.

    Be.

    Ranked.

    Higher.

    Are you really that thick.:huh

WIlliams gets credit for beating Margarito 1 year ago not NOW.

And YES 1 year is a long time in boxing. Titles change hands and fighters retire within that span of time. Things change!

Williams stock dropped with his loss to Quintana, winning the rematch was a good step back to redeemption.

But If he wants to be considered the CURRENT #1 welterweight all he has to do now isfight and beat the man that holds that spot: MARGARITO.

If he wants to be WW champ, he needs to beat Margarito. I think Margarito and Williams currently share the #1 WW ranking.

#1 belongs to Margarito right now by nature of his recent accomplishment but if he wants to remove any doubts he certainly needs to avenge his loss to Williams!

    1. Shane Mosley
    2. Paul Williams
    3. Antonio Margarito
    4. Miguel Cotto
    5. Carlos Quintana

Shane's been #2 since before the fight started ... and Williams was #3 ... Margarito was #4 ... there's no way that Margarito would leap Williams and Mosley ... he did a great job and deserves to be noticed ... but he's just moved up 1 spot ... I can't see him leaping those guys if they haven't lost since the last rankings are out ... he's not going to swap spots with Cotto ...
