I don't watch women's boxing for the same reason I don't watch male figure skating.

This makes me think - are women lining up to support mens gymnastics, figure skating, volleyball, etc? Not from what I’ve seen.

More women rush the gates to see boxing or UFC than see some 5’3 dudes flying through the air in spandex.

I say with full sincerity, I think if you put Katie Taylor's brain in a 135lbs male body, at best she'd be like 23-4-1 (6 KOs) and holding the EBU belt. Maybe Shields could have Andre Dirrell level success if she played her cards right. We're just getting to the point where there are now multiple women in a weight class who have even basic skills and all of a sudden they aren't so invincible.

Maybe increasing competitiveness will improve the situation, but as it stands the problem for me is women don't bring a distinct feminine style to boxing, they fight just like men who are bad at boxing.

In women's soccer and basketball the physiological and cultural differences lead to different playstyles. I've said before I find women's soccer has some entertainment advantages as a non-fan who watches every four years.

Softball and baseball might be an example to follow. Women play a different sport on a smaller field, shorter basepaths, etc. Why not change up women's boxing? Either give them small MMA style gloves to turn up the power (and perhaps allow limited grappling, if Youtube is any indication when women fight in real life they both grab each other's hair as a sort of starting position, try this?) or give them big ass beachball gloves and make it all about movement and traps to score clean blows.

I wonder what it would cost to open up one of the empty divisions and fill it with strippers, alcoholics, and other desperate women to make a telegenic woman who has done a lot of boxercise an undisputed champ.

Pathetic how? She goes to war, appears to train seriously, she's anti-pathetic!

Nothing wrong with being sexy! She's wearing the same stuff every woman does at the beach she just looks better in it.

A lot of (most of?) the women gymnasts are coached by men so clearly there is support for them in the sport.

Those guys are beasts too if you ever watch at the Olympics. Quite a different approach than women's gymnastics, kind of like what I was talking about above. Both sexes bring out different possibilities and dimensions of their sport.

lol, no. I don't know how anyone watches it seriously with all due respect. We have a better and more exciting product with men's boxing.

Women and men's grappling actually is somewhat different, due to the fact that women are generally more flexible than men and can survive locks men can't. Women play basketball differently due to being shorter and not being able to jump as high, I don't think it is due to cultural differences.

The big thing is that women don't have any distinguishing features compared to men that can be applied to boxing, other than that they're inferior at all aspects of the sport. The smallest men are faster and more coordinated than the smallest women, so that niche is also fulfilled much better by men. The only real solution is, as you suggested, basically changing what women's boxing is.

    More respect? No

The depth is seriously lacking. You have top 10 women with losing records, even with strawweight you would have to look at the lower top50 to see that in the men's divisions

Doesn't matter. If it's entertaining enough, it will get more views and therefore generate more revenue.

Men hit harder, and tend to get nastier, and that pays dividends in a blood sport.
