for those of you who like/follow the woman boxer .... when did you start following boxing? & when did you start following/giving **** about woman boxing? bonus question: why?
Been watching boxing live since 1990 when i was 6 years. You do the math. Also watching alot of Tyson and De La Hoya fights growing up i was exposed to woman boxers like Christy Martin, Lucia Rijker and Mia St.John specifically. Regardless if its men or women in the ring i enjoy watching Boxing! PERIOD.
The only time I watch woman’s boxing is in the background - whilst I am waiting for the next mens boxing match on a fight card. Harsh. But true.
Never payed too much attention on women's boxing but knew of Laila Ali was keeping her father's legacy on the female circuit. Also the film Million Dollar Baby brought some slight interest but the sport wasn't well promoted. Now we got fights of Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano that if it was Men they'd take forever to match up. Female boxing can be more competitive and fights can be entertaining. Don't follow closely as it can get boring as hell, but on the big fights I treat it as the same way
Am i a fan of females boxing frankly no. However they do box and like mens boxing, some fights are bore fests and others are tear ups. If nothing else women boxing is a tick in the box of FU to these countries who want to repress females, Oh hell i just became a feminist, ok the ugliest looking feminist on the planet with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp.
I think it's getting better and the Serrano/Taylor fight was awesome. I don't follow it very closely but the more fighting the better, as far as I'm concerned. At least the best women fight each other, and so many of the men are now fighting only once a year.
Sounds like you have an agenda, there. The women's version of the sport is clearly inferior to the men's , but the very best women's bouts are better than the less exciting of the men's bouts.
yes I have agenda is to find out if it's a generation thing. I am 55 age & do not understand women boxing interest. but it seems some persons do like it & are maybe older even than myself. so my theory is wrong probably
I'm a bit older than you and I sometimes watch women's boxing. I don't get as excited about upcoming events, nor do I follow their progress to the degree that I do with male boxers, but I enjoy the occasional lady's bout. About twenty or thirty years ago, the quality was very low, but it was in its infancy. It's still not great, but it has improved. Just like Ladies football. The first time I watched 'world class' women's football, the standard was pitiful ...our under-13 school time would have destroyed the best of the lady's national teams. But twenty years later, they have improved to the point where they can be entertaining to watch. Females will never be on the same level as males in any sport that demands athleticism. The very top female tennis players would lose badly to men just outside the top thousand. But back to the topic, yes, I sometimes watch the ladies scrapping, but they have a looooooong way to go.
Started watching boxing 20-25 years ago. Started watching womens boxing since it was an Olympic sport. Why what? I like the sport of boxing. I have a question for you. What the hell is wrong with you where you’ll stop enjoying a sport because the competitor isn’t a sweaty man? Second question. Are you actually a fan of boxing? Your questions would lead me to confidently assume ‘no’.
Congratulations, you’re a fan of the sport we gentlemen like to refer to as ‘boxing’. The OP on the other hand.. Superheroes? Sweaty men? Who knows. As others have said I don’t get excited about it in the same way in general, but for female fighters I do know of it’s exactly the same. Including my disappointment at the cancellation of this weekends bout. That was/is a legit super fight.
I'm a big fan of the Olympics so when women's boxing was including in the Olympics in 2012 it legitimatized women's boxing for me and that's when I started watching women's boxing. Prior to that I never watched Christy Martin, Lucia Rijker or Laila Ali just saw them as a side show novelty act like the Youtubers boxing right now and so I had no interest in it.
