I think this decade is gonna be the next great one for the heavyweight division since the 90s. When comparing this one to the previous ones, we have a lot of the same qualities of what made them good. That is to say we have the top guys each uniquely good at a particular area, different from one another, they’ve had a few notable fights, to some degree are comparable to past greats and in general they’re entertaining to watch. Not to mention they stand out in that they’re giants compared to previous eras. Granted it is early on in the decade, I think it’s building up to a great start and IMO already looks better than everything from the last 2 decades.
Heavyweight Division is absolutely shot to bits. Hrgovic was supposed to be the bogeyman of the division in terms of prospects. He clearly isn't. Ortiz is 48 years old and nearly beat the guy who stopped Joshua. There are some decent prospects on the scene but i wouldn't be shocked if we see more and more getting exposed. HW Boxing is low level **** these days.
The 1990s was a special decade for Heavyweight Boxing! Some of the best and most memorable HW fights of all time happened in the 90's.
It could be a great division, but it's not, because they keep pushing the same seven guys. If Zhang, Hrgovic, Gassiev, Wallin, Sanchez, Anderson, Sirenko, Dychko, Dubois, Joyce, Makmhudov and Jalalov could get fights with Whyte, Chisora, Parker, Bakole, Hunter, Ruiz, Wilder, Joshua, Martin and Ortiz, on their way to earning shots at Fury and Usyk, the division would explode with awesomeness and even more guys would come out of the woodwork to grab some dough. But most likely the next few years will be dominated by new pairings like Whyte-Ortiz, Wilder-Ruiz, etc. Give the young guys a chance. Most of them aren't even that young anymore.
