Not sure what cancelling the event is supposed to achieve. Surely better mark of respect would have been to belt out the national anthem before the fight. Bizarre decision
It will. It's too big of a fight not to. I just hope it's at the O2 like it was supposed to happen at originally.
Should have held it a few weeks ago, not so much on TV. I still think Marshall will win but this benefits Shields. She's said before she fights at 160 because she likes how her ass looks with the extra weight. She's a tiny MW even for women, in men's boxing she would be cutting to make 130 (maybe 135 now that she's deeper into her 20s). If you look at women's track and field or other sports where there is a huge competitive field they can get pretty lean. It's just that Shields is one of the only skilled female boxers on the planet so she can **** off a little. Unfortunately Marshall is one of the twelve or so other good ones and is at least two full weight classes bigger so it's gonna be very hard.
It doesn't make sense to me either. She will have a hard time beating Marshall since Marshall is a big, skilled, tested MW.
I took a little look back at their fights in advance of the league picks for the weekend and actually it became less clear cut for me. Shields is much faster than Marshall, who has looked so completely dominant lately against opponents where she was bigger and faster and better (and probably more powerful to boot). Shields at least breaks up her total square of boxing invulnerability. I think if Shields had stayed on boxing only and had been able to find a few more higher level opponents to raise her level this could have been a 50-50 fight.
Madison Square Garden is the Mecca of Boxing. Every fighter dreamed of fighting there. Vegas is rightfully named Sin City where they worship $$$$$$$$$$$$ over honesty
If I was still actively involved in the sport I would not advise any fighter to fight there Look at the blatant corruption involved in ludicrous scorecards presented by Vegas judges over the years plus the obvious Peds abuse Does the State Commission ever investigate these things? Do they ever have officials explain their actions ??? NO I think we all know why.I'll say it again Boxing is riddled with corruption
While they're at it they should put it on a PPV television channel to increase the profits. It's common sense not to limit your paying viewership. Some people don't want to pay $99 a year (and probably going much higher), in addition to the cable bill, for ESPN plus, for an occasional fight.
Sadly youre right They don't even bother to try to hide it either Why should they The State Commissions rule the sport No one polices them
It would have. All sports was. Having one big event not cancelled would have made it look even worse.
