I wonder this after just watching the 3rd bout with GGG. In his last few fights he's just not as good as what he used to be before that. The height of his ability seemed to peak around GGG 2. Everything from power, speed, stamina and skill was top notch then. Ever since, he looks to have regressed in mostly all departments. He's only 32 granted which isn't anywhere near old age, but I think all the pro fights he's had over the years has caused a lot of wear and tear on him.

That said, when do you think his prime ended? I think GGG 2 or maybe the Saunders fight as quite possibly the last fight we really saw him at the top of his game.

    Saunders fight maybe?

That may have been a turning point.

Could be. Plant was winning rounds when he fought Canelo. Hes 32 and hes in the twilight of his prime now.

When he moved to the wasteland of 168 and was able to just move froward punching biceps to victory. He stopped polishing his skills and the lack of 168 talent didn't push him to improve. Canelo stagnated and his wild swinging shots that missed a 40 year old Golovkin by miles showed that he picked up bad habits fighting the Smiths of the world.

I think he's still in his prime now although clearly in the twilight of it, he always gasses and has been known to lose rounds to land big shots, that's just how he fights. Let's see how he looks in his next fight.

Seemed fine to me. Saw nothing that said he’s lost a step. He’s not as mobile, but that’s to be expected. Still executing at elite level. Not sure what people were expecting. Say ggg is gonna win preflight, then when canelo beats him like the rest expected, canelo is faded.

Kovalev imo was when he changed to the slow moving step, one big punch style. Jacobs before that was his last good fight.

People were expecting Canelo to perform a lot better against GGG than what he did.

    During the 2nd GGG fight.

The following period feasting on corpse of Kov and others looked like a murderous streak but he didn't have to get better to beat those guys, and in actual fact fought worse in all those fights than he did in GGG2, flat footed and one dimensional

Didn't watch the fight, so I can offer no opinion on how it went, but I did think Canelo would win a UD. However, I was expecting 2 117-110 cards, not 2 115-113. He should not be having any problems with a 40 year old Golovkin at this stage of their careers, who has looked slower and more hittable since the last time they fought each other.

Clenelo hasn't slipped at all. Golovkin's been the only dude that has really hurt him, so he played it extra safe. Clenelo didn't sell out because he didn't want KTFO6 to happen to him. And neither did Golovkin.

Clenelo murks Andrade and Charlo in the same fashion as his ascent into 168. Loses to Bivol again, possibly by stoppage if Bivol decides to come out of first gear, and he gets flat-lined by Beterbiev and Benevidez.

The Jacobs fight was the last fight where he was in his true prime. As soon as Canelo moved up from 160, he was noticeably less impressive, and against inferior opposition too.

Canelo did not box impressively against shot to pieces Kovalev or in the wasteland that is 168. After KOing Kovalev, he largely abandoned his jab and just looked to throw big single power punches at 168.

I would actually argue the twilight of his prime was Plant, and he’s now well and truly out of his prime after his lacklustre performances against Bivol and GGG 3. He has a lot of mileage and the jumping between weight classes won’t have helped.

I’m not sure where Canelo goes from here, I’ll be surprised and impressed if he actually gives Benavidez a shot, because I think Benavidez wins that fight.
